Flash floods in Colorado nearly 3-feet high caused a mudslide Wednesday that swept away a car and closed a highway.

Video of the mudslide captured by The Gazette newspaper showed one car being swept down the road along U.S. Highway 24, west of Manitou Springs.

Drivers of another nearly two dozen cars that became trapped in the mud had to cross over a ladder placed by firefighters atop a flooding stream to reach dry land, according to ABC affiliate KMGH-TV.

The mudslide was caused partly, officials believe, by recent fires in the area that left the soil unable to absorb the heavy rainfall. Authorities issued a flash-flood warning for the Black Forest and Waldo Canyon areas Wednesday afternoon.

“Do not drive through flooding areas and don’t let children play in the culverts and waterways. Very dangerous,” read a tweet from Colorado Springs police.

Despite the danger, there were no reports of injuries, according to authorities.

U.S. Highway 24 was reopened to traffic around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
