Multinational military exercise 'Eager Lion' has been launched in Jordan amid condemnation from neighboring Syria and its ally Russia. The US brings Patriot missile batteries to the Syrian border, which could remain deployed afterwards.

The exercises will last for 12 days, bringing together about 8,000 personnel from 19 countries, mostly Arabic, but also including the US and Europe. The maneuvers will also involve some 3,000 Jordanian and 500 British troops.

'Eager Lion' – which is being conducted only 120km from the Jordan-Syria border – is aimed at training personnel for the possibility of the Syrian civil war spilling into neighboring countries.

They forgot to mention Israel isn't too damn happy with the idea either.

The Bamster is in trouble at home so he's following Clinton's lead.

American Triumphalism is hubris at its worst.

If or when the Regime falls everyone is going to point fingers if and when chemical weapons make their way to terror groups. Same as with Libya.

That lack of strategic enthusiasm for a military role in Syria has animated or perhaps justified the administration's own ambivalence since the uprising began in March 2011. As the Pentagon grapples with a financial crisis largely brought on by the debts created by fighting two protracted wars for more than the last decade, military leaders aren't keen to slip into another fight. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Marty Dempsey, has repeatedly repudiated the idea of getting more involved in Syria. Providing direct military aid or getting involved in some other way is one thing, but it's the endgame the brass worries about. "Before we take action, we have to be prepared for what comes next," Dempsey told the Senate Armed Services Committee April 18.

The chemical weapons already used were given to the mercenary army by the west. This fact has already been verified.

Critics' arguments cannot be dismissed on the basis "Oh, they're critics."

True but that is not what I stated.

On the other hand, the Syrian opposition's morale has touched rock bottom after the crushing military defeat in Qusayr. The government forces are now preparing for their "liberation" of Aleppo. If the fall of Qusayr meant that the clandestine arms flow from Lebanon would taper off, a defeat in Aleppo could disrupt the opposition's supply lines from Turkey.
Point - This loss was not a crippling blow to the opposition. Hezbollah put all their weight behind it. So the article is off a tad to say the least.

Meanwhile, the proposed Geneva 2 is becoming a non-starter, too. The Syrian opposition is far too divided and fragmented to nominate a unified delegation. The US' regional allies - Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar - are up in arms that the US is selling the regime-change project down the drain Also, back at home in Washington, congressmen, media and the think tankers, many of whom come under the influence of the Israeli Lobby, are clamoring for some "action" on Syria.

Point- Saudi has taken the lead role and the General in Charge has an absolute Veto over decisions made by the members who represent various groups. Qatar has been shunted to the side but still supplies arms. The Saudis are the bank.

All in all, Obama's momentous decision on military intervention in Syria, which could well launch a new Cold War, is a desperate diversionary move when his administration is caught up deep in the cesspool over the Snowden controversy.

The entire moral edifice on which Obama built up his presidency and the values he espoused at the core of his "audacity of hope" when he began his long march to the White House five years ago - transparency, accountability, legitimacy, multilateralism, consensus - lie exposed today as a pack of lies.

Point- Obama has stayed as far away from the Syrian debacle as he can. 4500 troops - could be used to secure chemical weapons but they would need more than that and air power.

Obama, too, badly needs a diversion because these are early days and China's government-owned media has already begun commenting on Snowden. In a report titled "Surveillance program a test of Sino-US ties", China Daily on Thursday broke its silence and taunted the Obama administration by proposing that cyber-security could indeed be a "new realm of cooperation" between Beijing and Washington. China Daily pondered,

Point - Pure blather. Obama knows full well what can happen in Syria.
