Paint me naive but this kinda shocks me...

About 3,000 people gathered in the rain in Trafalgar Square on Saturday night to "celebrate" the demise of Margaret Thatcher. A few people chanted obscenities and at least two bottles were thrown at police, with the call of "Maggie Maggie Maggie, dead dead dead" ringing out intermittently.

My theory: the body twitched, and some people panicked, thinking she'd come back from the dead and run for office again.

I wonder what these same people would have said if Thatcher had just ignored the Argentinian invasion
of the Falklands.

Doesn't shock or even surprise me, but I'm a bit of a misanthrope, I don't have a high regard for my species as a group and most days think the planet would be better off without us. I think it's pretty tacky to celebrate someone's death as some people have been doing with Thatcher's passing, but I don't buy the "don't speak ill of the dead" attitude either. History will require an assessment, and I think neither her supporters nor her detractors have got it right at the moment.

Yeah, the rule is that if you don't have anything nice to say about the recently deceased, then you save your breath to cool your porridge.

This was actually highly offensive and I'm completely shocked that this happened. I actually posted a "RIP Baroness Thatcher" message on Facebook when I heard the news and am still facing attacks by so-called friends! She was a democratically elected head of government which turned Britain around from being the sick man in Europe to a country with a booming and viable economy.

Absolutely none of these people have the slightest idea of basic economics and their absolute hate for a woman who dedicated her life to rescuing her country is unspeakable. I'm completely with you Sal.

She was an awesome statesman but her economic practices fell far short.

Everything in London rusts, even the Iron Lady.

Rust In Peace.

The patina looks good on ya.

When righties celebrated the deaths of Labourite Michael Foot and Chavez it was deemed ok by many:

Remember when the Right celebrated death of politician? | Liberal Conspiracy

Two wrongs don't necessarily make a right. But double standards are not appropriate as well.
