Both Judy and Stephen Harper share this common ancestor.
The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows at the Manitoba Provincial Jail.
On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription:
'Remus Rudd horse thief, sent to Stoney Mountain Jail 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the CP AND CN trains six times.
Caught by Mounted Police Force, convicted and hanged in 1889.'
So Judy recently e-mailed Prime Minister Harper for information about their great-great uncle, Remus Rudd.
Believe it or not, Harper's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:
'Remus Rudd was famous in Ontario during the mid to late 1800s. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the CP and CN Railways..
Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroads.
In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the Mounted Police Force. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honour when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.'"

That does happen, when you estimate the cost, double it before you announce it.
What bugs me though is these guys have a jobs plan, with millions in advertising
and they ship all the work to non Canadian shipyards. The planes are built outside
Canada because the Tories under John Diefenbaker destroyed Avro Arrow. Nice
touch it the problem that keeps coming back.
But then what's a few billion among friends, you'd rather have military stuff then
things like education and health care right?

At this point we don't know how over budget the new fighter jets will be. Boeing is offering the new "Super Hornet"
at about half the cost of the F-35. Another positive aspect of buying the Super Hornet is that it is a proven airframe
that probably won't be developing cracks like the F-35 is grounded for at the moment.

Satellites and drones are reducing the need for manned jets and ships. The highest of the high ground is space.
Explains why nothing has happened with the ships that were supposed to be built in West Coast shipyards. Nanaimo shipyard filed for Bankruptcy protection waiting for all this work that was promised 2 years ago.
