Two Regina women are facing 44 charges following an investigation into the alleged physical and sexual abuse of two young girls.

The two women, ages 37 and 55, made their first court appearance Thursday afternoon. Both were remanded into custody until next Wednesday, when they will appear in court via videolink from Prince Albert.

The two accused cannot be named due to a court-imposed publication ban.

Both women are charged with four counts of sexual assault with a weapon, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, five counts of assault with a weapon, four counts of invitation to sexual touching, three counts of sexual interference, two counts of making child pornography and two counts of possessing child pornography.

Police say the two girls, ages 10 and 11, were allegedly abused between Jan. 1 and Jan. 18.

Allegations surfaced on Jan. 14 that the two girls were involved in the possible abuse of a third child at an apartment in the 1600 block of 12th Avenue.

An investigation led police to suspect that two women in the home had abused two children living there.

Police say when it was suspected that the two women had abused the girls, there was no further contact between them. The children have been receiving medical and psychological treatment.

Only 44? I gues some didn't stick?

That just makes me feel sick to my stomach. Those poor kids.

For those who advocate otherwise, tell me again why these people should ever be allowed freedom in the community?

You want some justice here?

Lobby for the 'right' of these 2 women to spend their jail-time in General Population.

We have to see what kind of jail time they end up with in the first place. For the rest of their lives seems appropriate. For a start.

There's a good chance that the life expectancy of these women would fall far short of the national average.... But on the bright side, each day that they spent in Gen Pop would probably feel like a lifetime

You know, as fervently as I do believe that we (society) needs to behave in a manner that is better than those who go against it, I would have a very strong urge to 'look the other way' in a situation like that.

I can see your point and don't disagree (too much).... But I also see that these 2 girls will have to live with this for the rest of their lives.

They will be the ones that pay for the actions of the perps, day, after day, after day, after day for years to come. The 2 women that spend a few years in jail will never delete the damage that is done.

By in large, this is the big reason that I would not be all up in arms if these women were put int harm's way through some jailhouse justice

That's why it doesn't matter in the end what kind of punishment they ultimately receive, justice can never really be done.

I know, I get it. Emotionally speaking, I wouldn't bat an eye. But deep down that doesn't sit right with me. My principles and my feelings are in conflict.

This raises so many questions for me about our society in general for the following reason. The two girls who were abused actually began to abuse a third child and thus it got reported to the police and then investigated. Thus the girls were then removed from the situation. Interestingly enough, once victimized some victims then become perpetrators. That part I find quite chilling.

I also find our reaction as a society interesting because somewhere along the way victims fall between the cracks, no one rescues them, no one helps them and then...they become offenders. And once that happens I believe we too have failed both the perpetrator and the victim so we as a society have a piece in this too.

yes/no?

You want some jailhouse justice for these 2. Put them in stocks naked in the men's jail. A$$es in the air and legs spread. After a few days they might get a sense of the wrong they have done.

Life is just not enough and it would seem to me that they wouldn't learn from a few severe beatings but maybe a good taste of their own medicine???

The girls are still only 10 and 11 years of age, so despite their involvement in abuse of a third child I'm not ready to class them as perpetrators....yet. At this point they're still victims and, to my way of thinking, have not evolved into full fledged abusers. There are enough childhood victims of sexual abuse that do not grow up to perpetrate abuse on their own that I personally leave my sympathy and empathy at the door when former victims become perpetrators. Because they've crossed that line. Would they have become abusers were it not for their own abuse? Probably not. But then there are a good many criminals who suffered abusive childhoods and they don't necessarily get afforded special treatment or consideration. Should it become a factor in the rehabilitation process (counseling and whatnot)...absolutely. However bottom line for me is you always protect the kids (we should always protect the kids although I think we do a piss poor job of it with the sentencing we have), so I don't care how traumatic a perpetrator's own abuse was, if they pose a danger to children, we keep them away from children.

The intervention occurred because "the two girls were involved in the possible abuse of a third child".

They are still children, they are still victims and they also abused.

This is not about sympathy or empathy. It is merely a flag to us as a society that when former victims become perpetrators it is because they have been let down by those around them and it is incumbent upon us to note this and to try to make change because there will be more victims.

No one said anything about special treatment.

The point being we didn't. And people seem to just want to ignore that. It's wonderful that people feel sympathy for the victim. Hopefully one day we can get to the place where each child is protected or rescued so we break the pattern. That was the point I was attempting to make.

Why do we have to let people in jail have the pleasure of doling out justice to these hags?

The legal system is limited, criminals aren't.

It's not particularly palatable to me that we humans prefer to focus on criminals rather than victims. Maybe it's a news media thing.

That comes close to the most tasteless suggestion I've ever seen printed here.

First of all we want justice not revenge. We don't know for sure if these are relatives of distance
or their own children. That complicates things as children love their parents in many cases not
considering the harm they are being put through because they aer children.
No, these kids should never be returned to parents if this is the case and they should not have
contact that is done, but we have to consider the feelings of the kids who are victims, more than
once, they were abused, and they lose their parents as well.
General population solves one problem and creates others. The people in the prison now become
the predators so it goes on. As for other violent activity that is not a way for civilized people to
behave. You can't condemn an action and then do something worse yourself. as a society

I would be waiting for the trial and see if there is any substance to the charges. I keep thinking of the daycare operators a few years back that were accused of having satanic services in the daycare. Turned out to be just a figment of some social worker's imagination. No substance but it sure ruined a couple of innocent lives.

True enough we now know that children will lie and are highly suggestive. However, these women are charged with making porn video. That either exists or does not. It's interesting that they won't disclose the names of the women. Due to the age of those charged I would hazard a guess that it would be the grandmother, and the daughter who would be the mother of the children.

And the "porn" video may turn out to be two prepubescent girls playing in the bath tub.

We're getting more and more cases like this. But in the end they will only endure a mild sentence - usually a kiss in the butt and a light tap on the wrist from the authorities.

The neighbourhood this went down in isn't a happy place. I guarantee these girls were already put to "work", It's the type of neighbourhood kids get sold off to be slaves in Vietnam to pay off coke debts. Native kids blend right in with Asians.

This was no daycare, a daycare down there would have to do needle sweeps daily before allowing kids in the yard. The park/ kiddy stroll is a block away. It's supposed to be called Pepsi park but everyone calls Hep C Park.

Nice place.

1600 12 Ave, Regina, Division No. 6, Saskatchewan S4P 1S3 - Google Maps

She ain't waitin' for the bus. He's not just holding up a pole and the other girl isn't off to work at the "daycare".
