// another assault rifle shooting in the USA, Firemen ambushed and murdered as the respond to put out a fire in their community. //

Four volunteer firefighters responding to an intense pre-dawn house fire were shot Monday morning, two fatally, leading to a shootout between a suspect and police in suburban Rochester, N.Y., police said.

“One or more shooters” fired at the firefighters after they arrived shortly after 5:30 a.m. at the blaze near the Lake Ontario shore, just east of Rochester, Town of Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering said.

There was no active shooter at the scene later Monday morning, according to Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn. The first Webster police officer who arrived on the scene exchanged gunfire with the shooter, Flynn said, but he had no other information on the shootout.

The West Webster Fire District received a report of a car and house on fire on Lake Road, on a narrow peninsula where Irondequoit Bay meets Lake Ontario, Flynn said.

“When they got there, they stated to take on rounds and the initial responders were struck,” the sheriff said.

The two wounded firefighters were in critical condition at a Rochester hospital, Flynn said.

The fire started in one home and spread to two others and a car, officials said. The fire appeared from a distance as a pulsating ball of flame glowing against the early morning sky, flames licking into treetops and reflecting on the water, with huge bursts of smoke billowing away in a brisk wind.

Webster, a middle-class lakeside suburb, now is the scene of violence linked to house fires for two Decembers in a row.

Last Dec. 7, authorities say, a 15-year-old boy doused his home with gasoline and set it ablaze, killing his father and two brothers, 16 and 12. His mother and 13-year-old sister escaped with injuries. He is being prosecuted as an adult.

Here is another crazy with a gun. Gun registry is supposed to weed out criminals
but it does nothing to weed our crazy people. Guns in the hands of criminals is no
big deal they are responsible they need their weapons to kill each other but crazy
people don't care because they are going to kill themselves anyway.
Don't we live in a wonderful world full of well thought out policies and measures to
protect our communities?
Talk about back to the drawing board. The people are irresponsible or mentally ill
and the government demonstrates they are no better.
The real solution to crime and its remedies starts with the opening line

"We the People"

Somehow that has been forgotten altogether

I'm impressed. You actually made two true statements in one post.

Without even having a brain that can happen 25% of the time, and given the number of times he's fallen shy it was bound to happen sooner or later.-:)

Should licenses be required to buy gasoline, and all sales be registered? Last I heard, arson was an indictable offense.

Yep, aspirins too, they can cause deadly internal bleeding!

Oh look another gun control squabble. What brought this on? Oh yeah, those poor forgotten Firefighters who responded to a fire and were killed by a crazy person. Remember them?

Yep. Boomer could have quite easily just posted the news without the erroneous opinion about "assault rifles" as a headliner. Retorting to the rhetoric doesn't mean anyone lacks compassion for the FRs or their families and friends.

Some idiots in the States (and other places) will shoot at anyone.

It happens everywhere. Canada too.

I don't know what it is with this year. Was it the perceived end-of-the-world that was supposed to occur last Friday, or is it the added stress that the holidays seem to give people? Whatever the cause, there seems to be an upswing in large-scale violence! I feel horrible for the families of the slain firefighters (and the surviving firefighters as well, as how can they ever go to another call without this dispicable act rushing through their minds?). They rush to this scumwad's house, not knowing what to expect, and find this waiting for them. They risk their lives on a regular day, they shouldn't have to deal with this.:(

No doubt just another one of these events that they will see "never happens again"!

Huh? To be honest, I'm not sure how they could truly prevent something like this from occurring again. It happened in Canada, when those 4 poor RCMP officers were gunned down in cold blood by that cowardly piece of crap.:(
