Emails reveal White House knew terror group behind Benghazi attack

On Tuesday, Reuters reported that emails obtained from anonymous government sources show that the State Department and the White House knew within two hours that an Islamist militant group had taken credit for the September 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

According to Reuters, the emails "specifically mention that the Libyan group called Ansar al-Sharia had asserted responsibility for the attacks." Greta van Susteren wrote that the State Department said the group is affiliated with al Qaeda.

The emails also indicate that diplomats described the events as they were taking place.

White House told of militant claim two hours after Libya attack: emails

Emails show the Obama administration knew Ansar al Sharia was behind the attack in Benghazi

Per Pergram-Capitol Hill

Fox has obtained a set of internal emails which declare that the group Ansar al Sharia claimed responsibility of the attack in Benghazi virtually as the raid played out on September 11th.

Ansar al Sharia has been declared by the State Department to be a an al Qaeda affiliated group. The emails were sent by the State Department to across a variety of redacted national security platforms including the White House Situation room, the Pentagon, the FBI, the Director of National Intelligence and the State Department. Fox is told that approximately 300-400 national security figures received these emails in real time almost as the raid was playing out and concluding. Fox is told that figures directly receiving these emails work directly underneath the nation’s top national security, military and diplomatic officials.

The first email indicates that Ambassador Chris Stevens and other personnel were “in the compound safe haven.”

The timestamps on the emails are all eastern time and often include the subheading SBU…which is shorthand for “Sensitive But Unclassified.”

The redacted email address @nss.eop.gov is the White House Situation address. The email address extension @dni.gov is the an extension that goes to figures working under the Director of National Intelligence.

(Reuters) – Officials at the White House and State Department were advised two hours after attackers assaulted the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11 that an Islamic militant group had claimed credit for the attack, official emails show.
The emails, obtained by Reuters from government sources not connected with U.S. spy agencies or the State Department and who requested anonymity, specifically mention that the Libyan group called Ansar al-Sharia had asserted responsibility for the attacks.
The brief emails also show how U.S. diplomats described the attack, even as it was still under way, to Washington.

U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the Benghazi assault, which President Barack Obama and other U.S. officials ultimately acknowledged was a “terrorist” attack carried out by militants with suspected links to al Qaeda affiliates or sympathizers.

Administration spokesmen, including White House spokesman Jay Carney, citing an unclassified assessment prepared by the CIA, maintained for days that the attacks likely were a spontaneous protest against an anti-Muslim film.

While officials did mention the possible involvement of “extremists,” they did not lay blame on any specific militant groups or possible links to al Qaeda or its affiliates until intelligence officials publicly alleged that on September 28.

Breaking News: Fox News tries to discredit Obama administration. Shocking!

Wasn't this the same group who later denied direct involvement?

Didn't the same group later point to others for the attack?

Are you suggesting that only legitimate responsible "groups" take claim for terrorist events?

New York Times still blames YouTube video for Libyan ‘riots’

Related: A montage of Obama administration statements.

small dead animals: Not Waiting For The Asteroid

State Department emails show that the White House, the Pentagon and intelligence agencies knew within two hours that the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was terrorism. But the Fishwrap of Record is still clinging bitterly to the lies the Obama administration told for days after the attack.
In an article on the film “SEAL Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden,” the New York Times continues to blame “The Innocence of Muslims” for the”spontaneous riots” that resulted in the deaths of four Americans at the hands of terrorists.
Beyond the political issues, the film may carry the risk of associating Mr. Obama with any backlash in a Muslim world already inflamed by the YouTube trailer for an insulting film portrayal of its prophet. In September riots erupted in Libya, Egypt and elsewhere as Muslim crowds reacted violently to what they perceived as the unforgivable insults of a scratch production, “The Innocence of Muslims,” some of which was posted on YouTube.
Shameful lapdoggery.

WH: ‘We Decline to Comment’ on When Obama Learned of E-Mails, Met With NSC on Benghazi

The White House is declining to say when President Barack Obama first learned of three e-mails that the State Department sent to the White House on Sept. 11, 2012, directly notifying the Executive Office of the President that the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was under attack, that U.S. Amb. Chris Stevens was at the Benghazi mission at the time of the attack, and that the group Ansar al-Sharia had taken credit for the attack.

The White House also declined to say when the president first met with the National Security Council after the Benghazi attack.

“I have been asked by one of our spokespeople to relay ‘that we decline to comment,’” said White House National Security Staff aide Debbie Bird in a written response to CNSNews.com.

Joe Biden to Father of Former Navy SEAL Killed in Benghazi: ‘Did Your Son Always Have Balls the Size of Cue Balls?

The father of one of the former Navy SEALs killed in the terrorist attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya says President Barack Obama wouldn’t even look him in the eye and Vice President Joe Biden was disrespectful during the ceremony when his son’s body returned to America. He also says the White House’s story on the attack doesn’t pass the smell test.

Charles Woods, father of Tyrone Woods, called into “The Glenn Beck Program” on TheBlazeTV Thursday and recounted his interactions with the president, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Biden at the ceremony for the Libya victims at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. He told host Glenn Beck that what they told him, coupled with new reports that indicate the Obama administration knew very good and well, almost immediately, that a terrorist attack was occurring in Benghazi, make him certain that the American people are not getting the whole truth.

Vice President Biden, as he has become known to do, reportedly made a wildly inappropriate comment to the father who had just lost his hero son.

Woods said Biden came over to his family and asked in a “loud and boisterous” voice, “Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?”

“Are these the words of someone who is sorry?” said Woods.

Benghazi: The Corrupt MSM on Display

Fox News is covering the latest revelations of the Benghazi murders:

Let's check in with the other Mainstream Media news outlets to see how the self-proclaimed journalistic "professionals" are covering the biggest story in the world right now. A careful ****ysis of their home pages at 3:45pm ET reveals the following:
NBC News : Nothing.
ABC News : There was a link to Jake Tapper's blog, which discussed the story, but nothing else more prominent.
CBS News : A small story in the lower left corner talks about the commando force available but mentions no details of the multiple calls for help, all of which were denied.
CNN : There was a tiny text-only link to the "Benghazi e-mails" but nothing else.
NY Times : Nothing.
Washington Post : Nothing.
CBC News : Nothing.
BBC News : Nothing.
What would be most amusing, if this wasn't so serious, is that almost all of the news outlets prominently display "Breaking News" or "Latest News" as taglines. Pathetic.

Fukkin' shameful.

Mr. President

Your decisions killed your people.
Your decisions doomed them.
Your lack of spine, desire for re-election, politically filtered reality killed your people.
...and then you lied about it.
Update: Assets in theatre.
Jake Tapper asks, "Why wasn’t there more of a response?"
A cleaner timeline from Ace of Spades commentator angler.

Presenting this in a different format makes it clearer and even more damning: 9:40 pm
-Woods at CIA annex, a mile from Stephens and the consulate where he is located
-Woods hears gunfire at or near the consulate, makes urgent request for military report, which is denied; Woods is ordered to stand down (do nothing)
Before midnight
-Woods ignores stand-down order, and takes a team to the consulate to assist
-Woods' team finds Smith dead at the consulate
-Woods' team cannot locate Stevens
-Woods' team evacuates remaining consulate staff and returns to the CIA annex a mile away
12:00 am
-CIA annex (not the consulate) is now under attack
-Woods urgently calls for reinforcements, specifically requesting AC-130s; request is denied
-Woods' team engaged in lengthy firefight; one team member is on roof with machine gun; Woods' team in constant contact with HQ regarding situation
4:00 am
-after four hours of fighting, Woods and other members of his team are dead

Petraeus Throws Obama Under the Bus

All eyes are on you, Barack.

Via Weekly Standard:
Breaking news on Benghazi: the CIA spokesman, presumably at the direction of CIA director David Petraeus, has put out this statement: “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate.”

So who in the government did tell “anybody” not to help those in need? Someone decided not to send in military assets to help those Agency operators. Would the secretary of defense make such a decision on his own? No.

It would have been a presidential decision. There was presumably a rationale for such a decision. What was it? When and why—and based on whose counsel obtained in what meetings or conversations—did President Obama decide against sending in military assets to help the Americans in need?

CIA Director Petraeus Throws Obama Under The Bus: We Weren’t The Ones Who Denied Military Support To Americans Under Attack In Benghazi… | Weasel Zippers

also, this sickening reply from dear leader:

Unbelievable.
Via Yahoo! News:
President Barack Obama on Friday forcefully denied deliberately misleading Americans about the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi, telling radio host Michael Smerconish, “I’ve always been straight with the American people.”

Speaking to Smerconish during a 15-minute Oval Office interview, Obama also declared he was ”absolutely” prepared to kill those behind the assault but would prefer to capture them and “bring them to justice.”

Asked whether the administration’s shifting explanation for the September 11 strike reflected the intelligence he was receiving, Obama replied: “What’s true is that the intelligence was coming in and evolving as more information came up. [...]

Asked whether he knew Americans in Libya had asked for more security, Obama replied: “I was not personally aware of any request. Obviously we have an infrastructure that’s set up to manage requests like that,” in reference to the State Department.

“But we’re going to find out exactly what happened,” he said. “Ultimately, though, any time there is a death of an American overseas, I want to find out what happened, because my most important job as president is keeping the American people safe.”

“And we will get to the bottom of what happened, and we’re going to make sure most importantly that those who carried it out, that they are captured,” Obama said.

He also said he takes “full responsibility” for the circumstances in the attack, in which Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed. The suspects have not been publicly or conclusively identified, though Egyptian officials say a man suspected to have been involved was killed on Wednesday in a shootout in the capital, Cairo.

“My biggest priority right now is bringing those folks to justice. And I think the American people have seen that’s a commitment I always keep,” the president said, an apparent reference to the bin Laden raid.

Obama On Benghazi: “Ultimately … I Am Responsible”…

Total bullsh!t.

Via Politico:
President Obama vowed Saturday to hold the right people accountable if it’s found that there was breakdown in communications within the intelligence community ahead of last month’s attack in Benghazi.

“What my attitude on this is is if we find out there was a big breakdown and somebody didn’t do their job, they’ll be held accountable,” he said in an interview with “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski conducted in Nashua, N.H., according to a report on MSNBC.com.

“Ultimately as commander-in-chief I am responsible and I don’t shy away from that responsibility,” he added.
The taped interview is set to air Monday on “Morning Joe.” Scarborough is a guest columnist for POLITICO.

Gingrich Says Senator Told Him “At Least Two Networks Have Emails” From Obama Officials Telling Military To Stand Down In Benghazi During Attack…

If true, there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell the MSM would release the emails before the election.
Via The Blaze:
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday a U.S. senator told him that at least two news networks have emails from the White House ordering a counterterrorism team to stand down on a rescue mission at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

“There is a rumor — I want to be clear, it’s a rumor — that at least two networks have emails from the National Security Adviser’s office telling a counterterrorism group to stand down,” Gingrich told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren. “They were a group in real-time trying to mobilize Marines and C-130s and the fighter aircraft, and they were told explicitly by the White House ‘stand down and do nothing. This is not a terrorist action.’”

Key task force not convened during Benghazi consulate attack

CBS News has learned that during the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Mission in Benghazi, the Obama Administration did not convene its top interagency counterterrorism resource: the Counterterrorism Security Group, (CSG).

"The CSG is the one group that's supposed to know what resources every agency has. They know of multiple options and have the ability to coordinate counterterrorism assets across all the agencies," a high-ranking government official told CBS News. "They were not allowed to do their job. They were not called upon."

Information shared with CBS News from top counterterrorism sources in the government and military reveal keen frustration over the U.S. response on Sept. 11, the night Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in a coordinated attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya.

The circumstances of the attack, including the intelligence and security situation there, will be the subject of a Senate Intelligence Committee closed hearing on Nov. 15, with additional hearings to follow.

Counterterrorism sources and internal emails reviewed by CBS News express frustration that key responders were ready to deploy, but were not called upon to help in the attack.

CBS News has agreed not to quote directly from the emails, and to protect the identities of the sources who hold sensitive counterterrorism posts within the State Department, the U.S. military and the Justice Department.

As to why the Counterterrorism Security Group was not convened, National Security Council Spokesman Tommy Vietor told CBS News "From the moment the President was briefed on the Benghazi attack, the response effort was handled by the most senior national security officials in governments. Members of the CSG were of course involved in these meetings and discussions to support their bosses."

Absent coordination from Counterterrorism Security Group, a senior U.S. counterterrorism official says the response to the crisis became more confused. The official says the FBI received a call during the attack representing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and requesting agents be deployed. But he and his colleagues agreed the agents "would not make any difference without security and other enablers to get them in the country and synch their efforts with military and diplomatic efforts to maximize their success."

Another senior counter terrorism official says a hostage rescue team was alternately asked to get ready and then stand down throughout the night, as officials seemed unable to make up their minds.
