Amnesty International lambastes Canada regularly for the 3rd world conditions on some First Nation communities, but I never heard anyone describe the conditions as being similar to concentration camps... until now:

A former Manitoban First Nations leader has raised the ire of Canadian officials with his appearance on Iranian television comparing aboriginal reserves to concentration camps.

Terry Nelson, former chief of Manitoba's Roseau River Anishinabe, made the comments during an interview on Sunday with Iranian Press TV in Tehran.

"The reservations were originally more or less concentration camps," Nelson said in the interview....

And what would happen if we got rid of the "concentration camps" and finally started treating everyone the same? People like Nelson would hypocritically cry foul and would want something in exchange, if not try to hold onto their reserves. He should stay in Iran.

Depends on the reserve. Ive been to some that look like they belong in the third world whereas others look like normal small communities. Its not just the failure of the government which causes the disparity but also the native leadership itself. Its well known how corrupt some of them are.

It's not. Too many folks insist that natives are different from the rest of us, or that we're all standing on "stolen native land". Therefore natives are entitled to reserves, status cards, handouts etc.

Is it possible that natives are committing more crimes than others?

This is similar to when people cry foul that there "a million blacks in US prisons". Well, a million black folks committed crimes! End of story!

They dont take into account what happened before the crime just as we dont here. What makes those groups more inclined to break the law? It'd be good to figure that out so that more crimes could be prevented. Punishment isnt enough. It doesnt do anything to change the fact that the crime happened. We should be putting at least as much effort into preventing crime as we do with punishing people who commit them.

So yes, end of story if no one wants to look into the causes and try a little prevention.
