Guantanamo prisoner Omar Khadr, the Toronto-born detainee whose decade-long case has bitterly divided Canadians, is on his way home to serve the remainder of his sentence.

The Toronto Star has learned that the 26-year-old prisoner was flown off the U.S. Naval base on Cuba’s southeast shore and expected to arrive in Canada early Saturday morning.

Guantanamo officials notified Khadr of his transfer Wednesday, assuring him he would be repatriated by the end of the weekend, a Pentagon source said.

Just where Khadr will be incarcerated – or where the U.S. military flight will land – continues to be a closely guarded secret.

I usually agree with this sentiment.

I'm a firm believer in rehabilitation, diversion, and restorative justice.

There's no evidence that supports the notion Omar is a candidate for that.

Omar Khadr is 26 years old. He has been in prison since he was 15. Why is it a war crime for a fifteen year
old boy to shoot an American who he saw as the enemy. The biggest war crime I see is putting a fifteen year
old in prison for 16 years. Khadr's chances at rehabilitation are slim and none.

My position doesn't even take into consideration, the charges against him.

He had enough strength to walk away from his father, only because he felt he wasn't learning enough hate and murder.

And that is why he must stay in jail for a very long time. To protect the innocent.

I thought he was in for 11 years. I think his chances of rehab are 50/50.
