Shepard Smith Apologizes after FOX News Airs Car Chase that Ends in Suicide

A car chase in Phoenix, Ariz. today ended in a suspected carjacker committing suicide, and FOX News aired it live despite its five-second tape delay.

Mediaite reports that FOX had been tracking the chase since 3:00pm ET. The car had apparently been speeding at “110 mph on an Arizona freeway and then on a dirt road west of Tonopah,” according to the website. Then the suspected carjacker pulled over in the desert, got out of the car and seemed to wander erratically before stepping into a grassy area and shooting himself in the head.

FOX anchor Shepard Smith can be heard shouting “get off it, get off it, get off it” immediately before the station cut to commercial. When the show returned, he apologized to viewers. “We really messed up,”he said, “and we’re all very sorry.”

That should have been a learning experience.
When you get older grasshopper you may understand this part of life.

The armed suspect stole the four-door SUV at gunpoint from a couple outside a Phoenix restaurant, and then fired at police during his failed getaway...He killed himself about 80 miles east of the border, pumping a single bullet into his head on national television.

Yeah actually I did, and when I found out why he wanted to commit suicide, I figured out I should have pushed him instead..

He was an ex-soldier from WWII and was a prison guard in a concentration camp.. he was feeling sorry for himself and his past deeds. So being selfish, and at the risk of others lives, mine and two fine police offices he decided to jump.

The 3 of us held onto him, until the two police officers hand cuffed the guy to the bridge.

Suicide is a selfish act because of the pain and suffering to those left behind feel.

I do fell sorry for the victims and would hope the people wanting to commit suicide are not so far gone that they can't seek help from a professional counselor.

Suicide is a cowardly act, it comes from fear and shame. Where the real crime is, in my opinion, is that those that would deride people for calling it what it is automatically assume that it means we don't care. It is, in fact, the opposite. Facing the reality of it does not equate with lack of sympathy or empathy.
