Gas/Wage Theft Hotline Setup

Friends and family of a slain gas station attendant say he told them he had to pay for the cost of stolen gas out of his own pocket.
The station owner, however, says that is not his policy.

Police say Jayesh Prajapati, a 44-year-old father, died after being struck by a vehicle after a “gas and dash” incident Saturday at a Shell station on Marlee and Roselawn Aves.

Max Edwin Tutiven, 39, is wanted for second-degree murder in connection with the incident.

Station owner-manager Maz Alibhai said on Tuesday his employees don’t have to pay for the cost of stolen gas. He said he takes care of those costs.

Employees are asked to try to write down the licence plate number of the fleeing vehicle, call police and file a report about what happened, but have clear instructions never to run after a fleeing vehicle, Alibhai added.

The OFL set up a hotline on Tuesday for people to anonymously report instances of gas station employees being asked to pay for costs of stolen fuel.

Good, I hope any gas station and other store owners that pull this crap go to jail.

The OFL was late to the table, then came a "teachable moment", er, opportunity to pretend they were there all along. See those missing potatoes? That was us......
Many unscrupulous station owners/managers have been pulling that crap for years.

Seems to me that the simple solution is to eliminate non-prepaid gas 100% of the time.

Shouldn't need to, but I understand what you mean.

Yup, but we don't need unions any more, because apparently every employee knows their rights already.

What does ignorance of your rights have to do with cost adding unions?

Besides an excellent descriptor of your posts, you didn't answer the question.

I'll take that as another failure on your part, lol.

I walked into a gas station this week that had 6 different 8x10" pictures on the front door of people and their vehicles who allegedly took off without paying.

As I looked at the pics, which weren't all that good, I wondered why they don't have better quality cameras............

The pay at the pump system we now have in BC is excellent. Much faster too.
