Monty, the Queen's corgi which appeared in a sketch with her and James Bond during the London Olympics Opening Ceremony, has died at the grand old age of 13, Buckingham Palace has said.

Monty was one of three corgis who greeted 007 as he arrived at the Palace to accept a mission from the Queen.

Monty is not the only dog to have died at the Palace recently. The palace also confirmed the death of Cider, a dorgi, or dachsund-corgi cross-breed. Two other dorgis, Candy and Vulcan, remain.

The corgi has been associated with the Windsors since 1933, when the future King George VI (Queen Elizabeth II's father) bought his first.

They become as members of the family.

So true...& being Royalty, faced to live constantly in the spot light in
a freakishly decorated palace would feel like living in an office tower
or shopping mall or some other impersonal place...& these critters
would help it seem more like a real home.
