B.C. taxpayers will learn how the government will roll back the HST when Finance Minister Kevin Falcon introduces the highly anticipated legislation at 1:30 p.m. PT today in the legislature in Victoria.

The Liberal government has taken a lot of criticism in recent months for delays in revealing exactly what the PST will look like once it's reinstated along with the GST on April 1, 2013.

The opposition NDP has suggested the PST might not feature the same exemptions as it did before it was removed to make way for the HST.

Prior to the introduction of the 12 per cent Harmonized Sales Tax in July 2010, B.C. residents paid a combination of the federal government's five per cent Goods and Services Tax and B.C.'s seven per cent Provincial Sales Tax on most items.

But the HST eliminated a number of significant exemptions. For example, restaurant meals were previously exempt from PST but were fully taxed under the HST system.

The HST was soundly defeated in a province-wide referendum last summer after a successful campaign to scrap the tax. That tax revolt eventually lead to the resignation of former Premier Gordon Campbell and has been equally damaging to current Premier Christy Clark.

To fully understand the position all find themselves in follow the money it tells all.
When Gordon Campbell came to power he gave a two billion dollar tax break to
the wealthiest people in the Province.
When the economy went south the Liberals needed to cover a huge shortfall of
nearly 3.2 billion.
They made a deal to enact the HST and received about 1.7 billion from the Feds.
Leaving them with a 1.6 billion deficit. Think about it that is nearly the cost of the
tax break to the very wealthy.
Of course when the people rejected the tax proposition, they were left with paying
back the Feds for 1.7 billion and the deficit of 1.6 billion.
Now if you keep the tax around long enough you can recoup some of the lost money
and the impact will be much less. The problem is the people are now so angry it
matters not what they do.
The two bi-elections have given us an indication the the BC Tories a social conservative
fringe movement on the far right is not acceptable to the people at this point. The
Liberals are a third term government out of ideas and they have plunged BC into more
debt and deficit than any or all of the previous NDP governments.
The latest poll on local radio shows clearly the trend continues, to support Dix.
In the Okanagan it suggests 48% of decided voters in this area will vote NDP.
The Central Okanagan have never elected an NDP member provincially.
