A Kelowna Mountie was jumped early Tuesday morning after what may have been a gang related fight in front of a downtown night club.
Sgt. Ann Morrison says the Kelowna RCMP Downtown Enforcement Unit tried to break up a fight in front of 238 Leon Ave., just after 2 a.m., when one man attacked an officer and put him in a head-lock.
"A second man punched the officer in the face several times. The officer receive minor injury to his face and head but did not require medical attention."
Both men were arrested and taken into custody.
Morrison says police are not yet able to determine if the fight was related to a gang issue or not.
"Both men arrested were known associates of the Hells Angels Mission City Chapter."

Pedro Amestica, 39, has been charged with Assaulting a police officer and Resisting Arrest. He does not have a criminal record.
The second man, 37-year-old Thomas Volker, from Mission B.C., has been charged with Assaulting a Police Officer. He does have a criminal record.
The men have been released and are set to appear in provincial court in Kelowna on January 12, 2012.
According to Morrison there were approximately five men involved in the fight.

Consider yourselves lucky you don't have the vietnamese and chinese gangs like we do here in Calgary. A couple of years ago there were drive by's on a regular basis as opposing drug gangs were going at each other.

An obvious stupid comment by someone that, more than likely, never lived in Whalley or Newton.
I've lived in Whalley and even in Bridegview and in Kelowna. Kelowna is just as ****ed as Whalley except the cops don't try to break up fights at the Turf or Poncho and Lefty's.

With nightly reports on Global News why would a person have to live in Whalley to have an idea what it's like? Surrey kind of gets tarred with a wide brush, there are parts of Surrey (Cloverdale and Whiterock) that are half assed respectable.

There are many parts of Surrey that are decent. I've lived in both Whally and Newton (rootin tootin newton), and I can tell you, Kelowna is Valhalla compared to those 2 areas. There is no comparison between Kelowna and them.

Also, depending on where your sister lives in New West, it can be damn near as bad as Whalley and Newton.

Oh, and by the way petros, people don't live in bridgeview, they exist inbetween fixes.

One more add on...... to give you an idea what you are comparing Kelowna to. There have been 4 MURDERS in the lowermainland since Christmas eve. How many in Kelowna over the same time period?

600 block of 8th St. New West. - on top of the big hill I think. My comparison to Surrey was a little tongue in cheek Gerry.

Even one can be tragic if you happen to be the one!
