This is the price one has to pay for the kidnapping of the Conservative brand from the federal PCs.

Peter Mackay was elected as leader of the federal Progressive Conservatives, which he used to help Stephen Harper merge the PCs with the Reform party.

Peter has benefited with this marriage with Harper greatly with choice high profile cabinet positions and over the years he has been able to stand shoulder to shoulder with Stephen and I am sure there is a more exciting hidden story in there which we all have to wait for thirty years when the memoirs are published.

If it wasn’t for the PC wing of the Conservative party Peter Mackay would have been dropped a long time ago but as one person said 13 Conservative MPs would have to cross the floor to muzzle Prime Minister Harper and the PC wing would make it happen in a heartbeat.

Stephan Harper just can’t afford a revolt from within the party because as he said there is a lot of important work to be done to make Canada better.

For now Harper has to support Peter’s playboy antics and pray that one-day he will settle down.

This is icy ground for Harper. Canadian voters are not nearly so forgiving of stupidity and corruption as Americans. He'd be better off letting McKay swing in the breeze. The egotistical jerk got himself into this mess - he should be required to get himself out of it.

Harper wants to keep McKay around - McKay represents the PC Party, not the Reform Party. As long as he keeps McKay and his people around, he can pretend that the PC party supports the Conservative Party.

If Harper is as smart as I think he is he should jettison MacKay................he's not the man Elmer was!
