That's UGLY. Thankfully none of them where driving SmartCars.

As a Compliance Officer, people (including Truckers) that use
Cell Phones (both for talking or texting) while driving really
pisses me off.

Studies have shown that Cell Phone usage while driving impairs
ones abilities in a manner comparable to Drinking & Driving.

Texting requires at least one thumb, but both eyes.

I'd hazard a guess that texting is more hazardous than talking on a cell. I saw a woman once make a left hand turn across two lanes of traffic without looking up from her texting. I doubt she even realized she'd done it. At least with talking your eyes are engaged. And while I know that there are plenty of other ways to end up distracted, this one is so unnecessary and avoidable.

By far the majority of close calls I've had in the last several years while
driving involved someone using an electronic distraction device.

Texting while driving requires a special brand of stupid. The one I see
most often involves a motorist making a left hand turn from behind a
STOP sign while holding their steering wheel with their left hand and a
Cell Phone against their head with their right hand (obstructing their own
vision of everything to the right of them). :angryfire:
