The British TV series, "Spitting Image," which ran from 1984 to 1996, used puppets to caricature and mock celebrities and politicians. The puppets looked liked the people they caricartured but the faces were humorously exaggerated.

Now a new version of Spitting Image returns. This one is called "Headcases" but instead of using puppets the show uses state of the art computer-generated characters.

This new series features people such as Madonna and Kate Winslet, Princes William and Harry, Victoria Beckham, Robert Mugabe, Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling and Amy Winehouse.

In all, 64 famous characters will be caricatured in the series.

Like Spitting Image, Headcases is made by British TV channel ITV...

The latex has gone, but the lampooning is as merciless as ever.

This is Headcases, ITV's new version of Spitting Image.

The satirical show, which launches tomorrow, will once again see public figures dreading Sunday nights.

Eyebrow entertainment: Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling, a Scotsman, will moan 'We're doomed' on the ITV's Headcases

Musclebound and busty: Madonna and Victoria Beckham

More than a decade after the original series ended, it is being brought back by Spitting Image head writer Henry Naylor, and the impressionist and comedian Rory Bremner.

Instead of being portrayed by puppets, the likes of Madonna, the Beckhams, Prince William and Prince Harry will be depicted by computer-generated animated figures.

Victorian and the toff: Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Tory leader David Cameron

Blonde ambition: Kate Winslet

The 64-strong cast has been drawn up from an initial list of 615 candidates. Also included are Amy Winehouse, Pete Doherty, Robert Mugabe, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, Alistair Darling and Nicolas Sarkozy.

Brown is portrayed as a Victorian penny-pincher, while Darling's catchphrase is a Dad's-Army-style "we're doomed".

The Grey Man: The original Spitting Image which ran from 1984 to 1996 (using puppets) poked fun at former Prime Minister John Major's lack of charisma

Silver spoon toons: Prince Harry and William are both send-up targets

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is shown to have a massive bust which increases and decreases depending on the threat of terrorism.

David Cameron is an Etonian toff aided by his school-capped "squirt" George Osborne and William Hague, who knocks back 17 pints of bitter.

Booze buddies: Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty tuck in to cans of ale on a night out

Red carpeting: Helen Mirren and Judi Dench will be mocked

But fellow-politicians Jack Straw and David Davis will not feature, having been deemed not recognisable enough by the public.
