THE Queen has asked Helen Mirren round for tea — as a reward for playing her in the hit movie.

They will meet at Buckingham Palace next month.

Her Majesty was last night rooting for Helen to win an Oscar.

She is a big fan and has her own set of DVDs showing the 61-year-old actress’s roles in the Prime Suspect dramas and Calendar Girls.

Regal ... Helen as Queen Elizabeth II in film...

... and in police drama Prime Suspect, apparently one of the Queen's favourite TV shows.

But the monarch has refused to watch her film The Queen because the plot about the death of Princess Diana would be too upsetting.

A Royal source said:

“Her Majesty loves British films as well as television dramas.

“She thinks that Helen Mirren is one of the best actresses of a generation.

“There is no way Her Majesty would sit down and watch a film about the days after the death of Princess Diana.

“The memories and the subject matter are far too close to the bone. But equally the Queen still wants someone who is one of her favourite actresses to get the credit she deserves.”
