Jack Riley, the voice of Rugrats dad Stu Pickles, has died after a battle with pneumonia.
The actor, who also portrayed Elliot Carlin in all six seasons of The Bob Newhart Show in the 1970s, passed away on Friday, aged 81.
Riley featured in several Mel Brooks movies, like High Anxiety and Spaceballs, Catch-22, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!, and Boogie Nights, while his TV work also included appearances on M*A*S*H, ALF, Columbo, Family Ties, That ’70s Show, Seinfeld, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Baywatch spin-off Son of the Beach.
As the voice of Stu Pickles, he appeared throughout the Nickelodeon cartoon series’ run, in the show’s TV movies and films, and in the follow-up series All Grown Up!
Born in 1935, Riley attended John Carroll University in Ohio and served in the U.S. Army before becoming a radio personality in Cleveland.
