Superman actress Noel Neill has died, aged 95.
Neill, who was the first person to portray Lois Lane in a filmed adaptation of the Superman comics, passed away on Sunday at her home in Tuscon, Arizona.
Her manager and biographer Larry Ward shared the sad news on Facebook, noting she had suffered from a "long illness", but Neill "maintained that bright, perky and engaging personality up until her death".
Her first turn as Clark Kent's love interest was in the 1948 movie Superman, opposite Kirk Alyn as the titular hero. Both she and Alyn reprised their roles for the 1950 film Atom Man vs. Superman.
By the 1950s, she took Lois Lane to the small screen in the TV series Adventures of Superman starring George Reeves.
She went on to appear in several Superman films, playing Lois Lane's mother in the 1978 Christopher Reeve-led Superman and 2006's Superman Returns with Brandon Routh.
Prior to becoming an actress, the Minnesota-born Neill had aspirations to become a journalist, much like her on-screen counterpart.
After moving to Los Angeles in the 1940s, she scored a seven-year contract with Paramount Pictures after Bing Crosby hired her to sing with his band. With Paramount, she worked with iconic directors such as Cecil B. DeMille, Vincent Minnelli, and Hal Roach, and appeared in films alongside Marilyn Monroe, Bob Hope, Gene Kelly and Crosby, among others.
In 2010, she was memorialised in Metropolis, Illinois, where a statue of her as Lois Lane stands.

She always seemed to be so classy.

She was the # 2 pin up girl during WW II, next to Betty Grable. She appeared in over 100 films/shorts and was rather under rated though greatly appreciated by her audience. While she excelled on TV, I have always felt that it was her role as Miss Lane in the Kirk Alyn Superman movies series where her talents were in full display. I recommend that folks here watch that on DVD.

Great actress. Great human being.
