ORLANDO, Fla. -- Florida authorities say 'The Voice' star Christina Grimmie is in critical condition after being shot at a concert venue in Orlando by a suspect who then fatally shot himself after being tackled by the singer-songwriter's brother.
Orlando Police Department officials tell WKMG-TV that Grimmie was shot Friday night at The Plaza Live, where she was scheduled to perform. They say Grimmie's brother tackled the shooter, who then shot himself.
Police say the suspect had two guns.
No further information was immediately available. An investigation is ongoing.
Grimmie, a 22-year-old New Jersey native, finished third during season six of NBC's "The Voice."

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A gunman who shot and killed a singer who rose to fame after appearing on "The Voice" travelled to Orlando from another Florida city specifically to attack her and then fatally shot himself, authorities said Saturday.
Orlando Police Chief John Mina said at a news conference that the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Kevin Loibl of St. Petersburg, Florida, didn't appear to know Christina Grimmie personally. Grimmie was shot to death after giving a concert in Orlando on Friday night. She died early Saturday.
"She was doing a meet-and-greet, just signing autographs and selling merchandise. This white male approached her and opened fire, striking her," Mina said. "We believe he came here to commit this crime."
The 22-year-old singer from New Jersey finished third during season six of NBC's "The Voice" in 2014, competing on the team of Maroon 5 star Adam Levine. She began amassing a following on YouTube as a teenager, gripping online viewers with her powerful renditions of hit songs. Her videos on YouTube have garnered millions of views.
In an earlier statement, police said Grimmie had performed with the band Before You Exit at The Plaza Live in Orlando. The concert ended around 10 p.m., and Grimmie was shot as she signed autographs for fans at a merchandise table in The Plaza Live concert venue.
Grimmie's brother, Marcus, immediately tackled the gunman, who then shot and killed himself during the struggle, police said. They credited the singer's brother with preventing the gunman from hurting others. Around 120 others were in The Plaza Live at the time.
"Very heroic actions by Marcus Grimmie to jump in and it definitely could have prevented further loss of life," Mina said.
After the concert, 17-year-old Kaitlin Martin was standing with a group of other fans outside The Plaza Live, waiting for members of Before You Exit to come out, when she heard several loud "pops."
"We thought at first they were balloons ... but then security started running all over the place yelling at people to get out because someone has a gun and someone is shooting. Everyone is just running all over the place," said Martin, who travelled to see to the concert from Brunswick, Georgia. "It was chaos."
Martin said she was unsettled knowing the suspect had watched the concert in the same audience she was in.
"This person was in the crowd with us, and while we were singing, having a great time, he was there with different intentions," she said.
Detectives were searching Loibl's cellphone and social media accounts looking for clues as to a motive, Mina said, but they weren't aware of any history of stalking of Grimmie by the suspect.
At Loibl's home, in St. Petersburg, someone had left a note on the front door, expressing the "deepest sorrow" for the loss "to the family, friends & fans of the very talented, loving Christina Grimmie." The note said there would be no other comment. No one answered the door to the one-story house that had a rusted, metal animal trap in the yard.
Loibl had on him two handguns, two loaded magazines and a hunting knife, Mina said.
There were unarmed security guards at The Plaza Live and they checked bags and purses for contraband, but there were no metal detectors or pat-downs of people as they entered The Plaza Live, he said.
A spokeswoman said all events at The Plaza Live had been suspended until further notice.
Loibl had made travel arrangements to come to Orlando alone, as well as travel arrangements to go back home, but he didn't have a car, Mina said. The police chief wouldn't elaborate further.
Grimmie had posted a video of herself shortly before the concert was scheduled to begin, encouraging fans to come see her perform.
Levine posted a photo of himself with Grimmie on Instagram, commenting before her death was confirmed: "I'm sad, shocked and confused. We love you so much Grimmie. We are all praying hard that you can pull through this ... this just isn't fair."
"The Voice" paid tribute to Grimmie on its official Twitter page: "There are no words. We lost a beautiful soul with an amazing voice."
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported in 2014 that Grimmie moved to Los Angeles in 2012 after joining Selena Gomez on tour to focus on her singing career.
"I'm done being surprised by cool things she does. She's very talented and she's worked incredibly hard -- it's a dangerous combination," her brother told the newspaper at the time.

The United States has a problem

Not surprising given a population of 320 million! I suppose selling bad guys guns is a minor part of the problem but the over riding fact is bad guys will get guns, if not legally then illegally. People bent on causing mayhem have got any number of means and weapons to accomplish their mission!

Gwen Stefani is still shaken following the death of former The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie.
The 22-year-old singer, who appeared on the U.S. television talent show in 2014, was killed last week when 27-year-old gunman Kevin James Loibl opened fire during a fan meet-and-greet following a concert in Orlando, Florida.
Following Christina's death, her mentor on the show, Adam Levine, paid his respects to the singer, writing, "Christina was a natural, a gifted talent that comes along so rarely. She was taken from us too soon."
Gwen, who is also a judge on the show but was not on the panel when Christina competed, has now added her thoughts on the tragedy, saying, "Everybody, you know, is shaken. It's just a shock and... it makes me feel totally vulnerable. Everybody is just horrified."
Christina will be laid to rest on Friday at the Fellowship Alliance Chapel in Medford, New Jersey. Adam has offered to pay for the funeral.

MEDFORD, N.J. -- Hundreds of friends and fans stood in line and thousands more were expected Friday at a memorial service for "The Voice" singer Christina Grimmie.
The 22-year-old was shot to death last week as she signed autographs after a show in Orlando, Florida. Her assailant fatally shot himself.
Among those offering their condolences to Grimmie's family were Alissa and Joseph Canto. The husband and wife from outside Rochester, New York, said they drove 7 hours to come to the services at Fellowship Alliance Chapel.
The couple, both 24, said they've been fans since Grimmie launched her YouTube channel as a high school student.
"We have been fans for years but we didn't know how much we appreciated her until she passed," Alissa Canto said.
A public memorial service was scheduled for later Friday night.
Authorities said Grimmie was gunned down by Kevin Loibl the night of June 10 as she signed autographs after the Orlando show. A motive for the shooting has not been determined. Authorities said she had no personal connection to Loibl, who fatally shot himself after being tackled by her brother.
Grimmie was a YouTube star who was widely known from her appearances on NBC's "The Voice" two years ago. She lived in Evesham, a small community about 20 miles from Philadelphia, before moving to Los Angeles in 2012.
Pop star Adam Levine, who mentored Grimmie when she finished third on "The Voice," offered on Monday to pay for the funeral expenses.
Grimmie was buried in a private ceremony Thursday.
Inside the church on Friday, a large picture of her was displayed on an easel and her music was playing as people filed past to pay their respects.
Grimmie often cited her mother's ongoing battle with breast cancer as her inspiration, including during her first appearance on "The Voice" in 2014, where her mother sobbed in the wings at her rendition of Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball."
Her killing was the first of three tragedies for Orlando in the last week. Early Sunday, a massacre at gay nightclub Pulse left 49 dead in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. On Tuesday, a 2-year-old Nebraska boy was attacked by an alligator and killed at Walt Disney World.

Christina Grimmie shooter got hair implants to impress her: friend

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A friend of the gunman who shot "The Voice" singer Christina Grimmie after an Orlando concert says his friend had developed a fixation on her within the last year and that he had lost weight, gotten eye surgery and had hair implants to improve his appearance for her, according to a police report released Wednesday.
Kevin Loibl, the man Orlando Police detectives say fatally shot Grimmie on June 11 as she was signing autographs after a concert, spent most of his time watching Grimmie on YouTube and that he constantly monitored her social media accounts, his friend, Cory Dennington, told detectives.
Dennington worked with Loibl at a Best Buy store in the St. Petersburg, Florida, area and described himself as Loibl's only friend.
Loibl "made it clear he watched everything having to do with her," Dennington told detectives.
Dennington became concerned enough with Loibl's obsession with Grimmie that he told their boss at Best Buy about it, according to the police report.
The boss, Luke Dahl, told detectives he never spoke to Loibl directly about the infatuation but said he had seen Loibl watching Grimmie's YouTube videos at work.
Dahl described Loibl as "socially awkward, detached." He also said Loibl lacked social skills and worked in the back of the store on computers so he didn't interact with customers with his part-time job.
Loibl, 27, didn't have any previous criminal history, detectives said. He lived at home with his father and brother, and they told detectives they were unaware with his obsession.
His father, Paul Loibl, told detectives that his son "lived like hermit," hardly leaving his room except to go to his job.
Two representatives for Grimmie's management company didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
Thousands of friends and fans said farewell to Grimmie last week in Medford, New Jersey, where her family lived before moving to southern California in 2012.
