Birmingham heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath release their nineteenth studio album, 13, on 10th June.

The album was recorded between August 2012 and January 2013. It should have been recorded in Los Angeles but, because guitarist Tony Iommi was diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, the recording instead took place at his home in the Erdington area of Birmingham, West Midlands. Tony has now been successully treated for the disease.

Sabbath were without drummer Bill Ward for the recording of the album. Black Sabbath reformed under their original line-up - Ossy Osbourne, vocals; Tony Iommi, guitar; Geezer Butler, bass; Bill Ward, drums - in November 2011. In February 2012, Ward publicly announced that he would not participate in the Black Sabbath reunion unless he was given a "signable contract." The following day, the other group members announced they had "no choice but to continue recording without him," but also said "our door is always open" for Ward to return to the band. Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk stood in for Bill to record the album.
