Gay marriage has come to Mexico; not the entire country, just Mexico City. By some quirk of Mexico's constitution Mexico City can pass some of its own laws even if the rest of the country does not. As a result legislators in Mexico City approved gay marriage. Given that almost as many people live in and around the city as live in Canada, it is not an insignificant result. Who would have thought that a part of Latin America would extend a democratic right before the USA did?
