As Benjamin Netanyahu ascends to power, his message is the danger of a holocaust at the hands of Iran. Avigdor Lieberman emerges victorious and his message is that Israeli Arabs are a cancer. Never before has a government been established here solely based on sowing fear. Devoid of promise or hope, the government being formed offers only the prophecies of apocalyptic doom on whose waves the right rode to power. Now it's the right's only agenda.

Fear of an external enemy has from time immemorial been the most effective weapon of every right-wing or fascist regime.

It makes sense that Prime Minister Harper and Canada stand firmly with Israel. After all, Israel is a tolerant peace loving country that is only defending itself.

Iran has been threatening to attack Israel for a number of years. Iran has the ability to somwhat defend itself and is already constructing Gas Chambers.

Judaism isn't a race, its a religion. Israel is a state where rights are based on your religion. As Juan noted, the state practices religious discrimination openly. But individual Israelis are not their government.

Also can someone explain how gathering all the Jews together in one country which is in a constant state of war with its neighbors makes them safer? Israel's neighbors fear them, but sooner or later Israel will get what they've been giving. That's no way to live.

Jews are far safer in Canada than they are in Israel. They'd be safer in Iran too if it wasn't for the Israeli threat.

Tel Aviv (dpa) - In Israel, the number of emigrants exceeded the number of immigrants for the first time in 20 years, the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot reported Friday.

Many emigrants were recent arrivals who wanted to leave Israel again, the report said. In 2007, 14,400 immigrants are expected in Israel while 20,000 people are expected to leave the country, according to the report based on figures for the first months of 2007.
The last time emigration exceeded immigration was in the aftermath of the 1973 Yom Kippur War and in 1983 and 1984 when inflation was high.

Meanwhile the Maariv newspaper reported that approximately a quarter of the Israeli population was considering emigration.
Almost half of the country's young people were thinking of leaving the country, the report said. Their reasons included dissatisfaction with the government, the education system, a lack of confidence in the political ruling class and concern over the security situation.

If I was an Israeli Jew, I'd leave. The longterm future is bleak. War, more war, followed by more war. The only way Israel can survive is by committing one atrocity after another. Your children have to serve in a military which commits war crimes and crimes against humanity. I wouldn't want my child to have that experience.

If any Israeli Jews want to come to Canada, I'd say "Welcome to Canada" as long as they leave Israel's problems behind. No religious bigots with superiority complexes would be welcome. Please do come if you want to live in peace with your neighbors as equals.

10 Dec. '08: Hebron: Willful abandonment by security forces

On 4 December, immediately after the settlement in Hebron’s a-Ras neighborhood (“the House in Dispute”) was evicted, B'Tselem issued a public call to security forces to protect the Palestinian residents of the city, and Palestinians throughout the West Bank, from expected acts of revenge by settlers.

In the weeks that preceded the eviction, settlers attacked Palestinians and damaged Palestinian property daily in Hebron. Although these attacks were extensive and prolonged, Israel’s security forces failed to prevent them. In one of the incidents that B'Tselem documented, on 30 November, about 50 settlers entered a Palestinian neighborhood at 2:00 A.M., accompanied by an army jeep. The settlers threw stones that shattered windowpanes of houses and of some 25 cars, and punctured the tires of the cars. They then threw stones at houses in the neighborhood and shattered windowpanes.

Despite B'Tselem’s warning, and despite the high probability that attacks of this kind would occur, the security forces failed to properly protect the city’s Palestinian residents also after the eviction, when settlers invaded Palestinian neighborhoods in the city, torched houses and cars, threw stones, shattered windowpanes, and damaged solar-heated water tanks, satellite dishes, and water containers.

Fighting, burning, vandalizing and shooting... over some crappy house in a crappy neighborhood. Inevitably this place is going to be nuked and the survivors will fight over the radioactive craters.

That's where religious fanaticism leads.

Any Israeli with half a brain should leave. Palestinians should leave too, but they can't. They're more or less screwed. But at least Israel civilians have a choice.

Yes to both counts. I know people, personally, who are not Jewish, have no Jewish ancestry and have moved to Israel and become citizens.

It has the law of return that grants citizenship to jewish persons, it also has the normal methods of immigration that we have here.

You need to understand the difference between correlation and causation.

Of course most immigrants are Jewish. Why else would you move to a hot desert country surounded by armies of genocidal nutballs throwing bombs at your children and vowing to overrun your front lawn and butcher you and everyone you care about with machetes.

You don't move there for a nice place to settle down and raise the kids, you'd head to Canada instead. The only reason most people WANT to move to Israel is if they are Jewish, otherwise there is nothing so special there that you'd see that as an ideal place to settle down if you have the option.
