China National News
Friday 18th April, 2008

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, on a visit to Japan, has told Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda that he is ready to talk with Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.

During a meeting, Japanese leaders urged talks with the Dalai Lama without any preconditions.

China had earlier dismissed Japan's concerns by referring to disclosure on the recent incidents in Tibet as an 'internal matter'.

Yang also met Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura during his four-day trip, which was set up by Chinese President Hu Jintao.

Earlier in the day, a Buddhist temple in central Japanese city of Nagano decided to withdraw from hosting an Olympic torch relay as a protest against what it's leaders said was China's suppression of the Tibetan people.
