Afghan President Hamid Karzai urged the international community to reassess its approach to the war on terror, saying Thursday the deaths of hundreds of Afghans, including Taliban militants, was “not acceptable.”

A clearly frustrated Karzai said the approach being taken to hunt down militants does not focus on the roots of terrorism itself.

“I strongly believe ._._. that we must engage strategically in disarming terrorism by stopping their sources of supply of money, training, equipment and motivation,” Karzai said during a press conference.

In recent weeks, Afghan and coalition forces have launched a massive anti-Taliban operation across four southern provinces, aimed at killing or capturing fighters blamed for an upsurge in violence.

More than 600 people, mostly militants, have been killed since May as insurgents have launched their deadliest campaign of violence in years. At least 14 coalition soldiers have been killed in combat since mid-May.

“It is not acceptable for us that in all this fighting, Afghans are dying. In the last three to four weeks, 500 to 600 Afghans were killed. (Even) if they are Taliban, they are sons of this land,” he said.

At this moment it's the only way to defeat Taliban.

If the supply of money and military equipment is found then coalition forces would stop them. But it comes secretly.

If more of Taliban is captured, and more places is under coalition forces then less military equipment will reach their destination. Less money and military equipment is supplied less taliban will be able to fight.

It remains the only way to fight them, even thought it's very costly for both sides.

So, we should invade Pakistan and Saudi Arabia?

What if some of supply is going from Canada?

We don't know.

In Russia, some generals sell newest military equipment to Chechens who pay a lot of money. But Russian army is not supplied with that.

Why don't they just make all the Afghani region an international park? Move everyone. Even the most stubborn. The helpless, hopeless and hell-born. God would probably thank us. And I like camping!

Why doesnt he just say, lets try to limit the civi deaths....?

I mean Taliban may be the sons of your land, but they are also trying to remove your power and bring things back to how they were pre 9/11 in Afghanistain.....Karzai must have his head up his ass.

Why don't we do the same thing here in Canada. It's gonna be a huge arena, from east coast to west coast, from borders of US to the Arctic. I like hockey.

Malaya didn't settle down until "the Brits" got the hell out

Northern Ireland was not a military victory either.

the Mau Mau uprising? much more like Malaya than Iraq or Afghanistan.

That could be the case, but now he is going to be confuseing alot of Afgans who were told the Taliban is wrong... Afgans that signed up for the army to fight the Taliban threat to their nation...and now all of a suddent he leader of the nation says killing Taliban is wrong?

Karzai should stick to his guns, Sure condem the deaths of civilians but when your own poeple fighting a threat to your country dont flip around and say....dont fight them anymore...
