New information has been gained from Palestinian youths held in Ofer prison, an Israeli jail for Palestinians just outside Ramallah. Ofer has come under fire from human-rights groups alleging the torture and mistreatment of detainees. The prison was the site of large scale riots late last year.

On Feb. 25, 17 year old Mohammed Kharaz was arrested at an Israeli checkpoint for carrying a knife. He was kept in a crowded holding jail for 12 days, then setenced to seven months and sent to Ofer.

"Ofer was like paradise. You could go to the toilet whenever you wanted, and we had a good time playing football and table tennis in the big courtyard. I started reading good books in there.......I could stay up as late as I wanted. In prison, there is digital TV. You can watch anything......."

Here is the kicker. Mr. Kharaz went to the checkpoint INTENDING to get arrested, because he had heard from his friends how wonderful life was in Israeli jails!! This is becoming a troublesome phenomena for the Israelis, as this is a common practise among Palestinian youth.

Oh, those monstrous Israelis! Remember, this is a prison ONLY for Palestinians, one accused of TORTURE (ain't that a laugh) (Hit him with the soft pillow! It'll be another round of table tennis if you don't talk!)

Oh yeah, and here is something else...........remember all that aid we used to send to Palestine? Do you know where a good part of it wound up? I mean the stuff that didn't build mansions for high-ranking Fatah members, or buy schoolbooks that didn't show Israel on their maps............it was paid out as a $200 a month stipend to families of folks in Israeli jails. Great stuff, eh?

In case you were wondering, a strong stomach is necessary to stand all the laughing this should inspire........

It is either laugh or cry.

None of the things described there seem to be out of the ordinary, or unreasonable. Recreation is a standard in detention centres in Canada, as far as I know; and I would assume that most inmates at our own detention centres have access to washrooms at any seasonable time, too. In terms of television access, this would also be reasonable. In Canada, for example, I am quite certain that inmates have access to CPAC and other such public access programs.

Absolutely Five!

I didn't mean to infer that these things should not be part of the prison, I only meant to point out that the prisoners are very well treated.......

It is a shame that such conditions would seem a paradise to the boys, but I don't think you can blame that entirely on Israel........that's for sure.

I think that this goes to show how much lower the standards of living are within the Palestinian Authority. It's a shame that the people of the P.A. are being punished through cuts in foreign aid because of the conduct of the Government of Palestine; however, this cannot be helped, and efforts are being made to route aid to the people rather than throught the denounced Government.

However the Palestinian have the democratic right to elect whoever they wish. But we have the right to withhold aid if we don't like who they chose. They chose people who hate us and there nabours and don't regonize either. In a sence it is hard punishing a people.

Of course I'm not defeanding isreal, but I just think voting in terrorists was the stupidist thing these guys could have done and now they have to live with the backlash of there choice.

Well, fatah is a corrupt party, same thing with liberals in here, so the palestinians decided to elect a radical party that will defend them, just like the canadian decided to elect a radical party.

Saying they have to live with the blacklash of their choice, is synical at his best, what choice do they really have? They choose peoples who hates us, but we support israel to their teeth, what does that tell you? we support a governement who hates them.

Yeah, well, I don't really think you can compare Fatah and the Liberals.......although God knows I am no fan of the Liberal Party, I don't think they have engaged in wholesale murder and terrorism. I do get your drift, however.

I do feel some sympathy with the Palestinians, caught as they are between Hamas, Fatah, and the Israelis............but in the end the people are responsible for their government, especially in a democracy, and must live with the consequences.

BTW, I do resent somewhat your calling the Conservatives a "radical" party. I ONLY WISH! They are anything but.

Fatah I believe did attacks on Israel but they were the most political about them. They used other groups. The Munich Massacre that killed 18 people comes to mind. But with regards to the political corruption section they would probably be as corrupt as the Liberals in the sense of the word.

Using a fake terrorist arrest to justified an increased budget or to justified military presence in afganisthan is radical, sending troops to afganisthan based on a lie, is radical, using the same rethoric as george w bush regarding terrorist hating our way of life, is not just retarded but also radicals.

Of course i can't really compare liberals to fatah, especially since they arenot facing the same situation.

We'll see in a court of law if the terrorist arrest is "faked". Aeon, I really think you have to get away from these conspiracy theories.

What would convince you we are under threat?

9-11 didn't do it.

Bali didn't do it.

The London subway didn't do it.

Spain didn't do it.

Arrests in Canada didn't do it.

It appears you have made up your mind there is NO Islamist threat, and have no intention of being distracted by the FACTS!

As for the rest of your post, I would like to point out once again that the LIBERALS sent our troops to Afghanistan, the Liberals proposed an increase to our military budget, the Liberals joined Bush in the War on Terror.

Is the Liberal Party a party of radicals?

Fatah may not be a great party or a good one at that. However they are not Hamas, a radical political party which both hates isreal, hates the USA but supports terrorism. If they wanted to make a statment, elect one of the seculer socialist parties, but Hamas, what were they thinking. No, I've always supported the Palestinian cause but electing that government has put the peace process back and put in danger not only Isreali lives but those of the Palestinian.

I agree Finder. Fatah has done things in the past however their were independents and have a small but efficent Hamas to watch the Fatah government. And which party had more popularity? I thought it was Fatah I am unsure of that??

9-11, no evidence that alquada are behind it, even fbi admits it
london, the same
madrid, the same
canada , the same

Liberal , can be radicals at times, but they tend to be softer than conservatives, still just like the conservatives, i don't trust them.

aeon will believe that treat exist only if s/he is hurt.

Otherwise, the only thing s/he does is to turn any subject to 9/11. And debate about it. No matter what was the subject.

I think al-qaeda doesn't have anything to do with this thread, right?

This thread is about palestinian treatments in Israili prison. I think the war in Afghanistan, which is based on "lie", has nothing to do with palestinian treatment in israili prison.

I see no direct connection between Canada's involevement in Afghanistan, and palestinian treatment in israili prison.

Am I right?

I will sound wrong only to aeon, who will find inderect connection between every event, and will turn the subject to 9/11 and defend whoever s/he likes.
