New information has been gained from Palestinian youths held in Ofer prison, an Israeli jail for Palestinians just outside Ramallah. Ofer has come under fire from human-rights groups alleging the torture and mistreatment of detainees. The prison was the site of large scale riots late last year.
On Feb. 25, 17 year old Mohammed Kharaz was arrested at an Israeli checkpoint for carrying a knife. He was kept in a crowded holding jail for 12 days, then setenced to seven months and sent to Ofer.
"Ofer was like paradise. You could go to the toilet whenever you wanted, and we had a good time playing football and table tennis in the big courtyard. I started reading good books in there.......I could stay up as late as I wanted. In prison, there is digital TV. You can watch anything......."
Here is the kicker. Mr. Kharaz went to the checkpoint INTENDING to get arrested, because he had heard from his friends how wonderful life was in Israeli jails!! This is becoming a troublesome phenomena for the Israelis, as this is a common practise among Palestinian youth.
Oh, those monstrous Israelis! Remember, this is a prison ONLY for Palestinians, one accused of TORTURE (ain't that a laugh) (Hit him with the soft pillow! It'll be another round of table tennis if you don't talk!)
Oh yeah, and here is something else...........remember all that aid we used to send to Palestine? Do you know where a good part of it wound up? I mean the stuff that didn't build mansions for high-ranking Fatah members, or buy schoolbooks that didn't show Israel on their maps............it was paid out as a $200 a month stipend to families of folks in Israeli jails. Great stuff, eh?
In case you were wondering, a strong stomach is necessary to stand all the laughing this should inspire........
It is either laugh or cry.
