The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P., the Member for Calgary Southwest and the Prime Minister of Canada, has promised that an agreement with the United States of America in relation to the North American Aerospace Defense Command, and that the agreement would come to a vote in the Parliament of Canada. Unlike the previous agreement, which expires on the 12th of May, the new agreement would be indefinite, and would expand the responsibilities of NORAD to include monitoring for sea-based terror attacks.

 My Opinion Re: Debate in the House

I think it's good that the Prime Minister has promised a debate, and a subsequent vote, on this agreement — however, members of the United States administration have indicated that Canada has already committed indefinitely to the new agreement, apparently renewed by the Honourable Gordon O'Connor, P.C., M.P., the Member for Carleton—Mississippi Mills and Minister of National Defence, and His Excellency David Wilkins, the Ambassador for the United States. So, if this agreement has been decided, and the House of Commons votes to change or reject the agreement, I wonder whether the Prime Minister would just ignore the opinion of the Commons.

Hmph. Well I guess we don't have to worry about Arctic sovereignty anymore. Way to fulfill another election promise.

NORAD was first established in 1958 to protect Canada and the U.S. from the perceived threat of Soviet air attacks.

In the wake of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, NORAD took on a greater responsibility for protecting against airline hijackings.

"The new agreement expands NORAD's mission by adding maritime warning to NORAD's aerospace defence mission,'' Hironimus told the Star.

NORAD has previously only been responsible for guarding North American skies from attack.

Canada will still abstain from involvement in the controversial missile defence program, a decision made by former prime minister Paul Martin last year.

So no star wars, but we will slide in deeper with the USA on its War on Terror. The secrecy and the fake debating are concerns however, and puts a nasty smear on this nice spin on Canada's military partnership with the USA.

There are others reporting that Star Wars will be done in partnership with Canada. There isn't really any way around it if there has to be bases on Canadian soils.

What concerns me is that when we protest American foriegn activities that border on criminal behaviors, we are being hypocritical. If we are going to have any credability, we cannot be on two sides of the fence at the same time.

Tortures committed by the US Army would be justification for Canada to abandon military partnering with the USA.
Added to the barbarisms occuring in Iraq on the civilian population, and the wicked manouverings the USA is doing in South America and anywhere voters have chosen socialists [the politics of which Canada is at least partly adherant to], are all good reasons to divorce our military from Americas

A major concern to Canada is the way the USA's military is present to a high degree in oil-rich foriegn nations. We are one of those with oil, and if the global situation deteriorates much more it would be easy for America to take over Canada or at least Alberta. Heck, Klein would be happy as a pig in shit to stay on as leader if that happened.

The global deterioration in terms of wars, political strife and protest, and even weather changes, will create chaos from which the Elites powers can easily control from.

So lets work to stabilise the politics - america is working hard to destabilise it all - by resisting the USA created chaos. Harper is only adding to it, which is all they [power elite] are asking of him.....
