The Government of the United States of America yesterday released a list of persons being detained at the Guantanamo Bay detention centre, after having received an Access to Information request from the Associated Press. There are five hundred fifty-eight (558) persons detained, as per the released, from thirty-nine countries (primarily, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). Omar Khadr, of Canada, is among those detained at the facility.
However, there is speculation that this list could be incomplete (the list only discloses information pertaining to the names of detainees who were processed through the Combatant Status Review Tribunal). Contrary to the list, the Armed Forces of the United States of America have indicated that only four hundred ninety persons are in detention at this time.
