United Nations Peacekeeping started in 1947, but not under the idea that is peacekeeping now adays that was created by Lestor Pearson.

United Nation Peacekeeping has gone to 60+ missions, some successful and some not so successful.

In the 60 years, over 2,256 peacekeepers have been killed.

By the end of 2004, 107 Canadians had been killed during peacekeeping operations in the United Nations.

Now by the end of 2005, 113 Canadians have been killed during peacekeeping.

What is the ratio of successes vs. nonsuccesses?
Have the successful missions been maintained?
Have those missions that have failed been recovered?

It would be interesting too know these facts too judge the relative success of UN Peacekeeping.

Past Missions (Successful):

Chad/Libya: Resulted in the sucessful withdrawal of both armed forces back to the border. (1994) No violence has happened since

(UnSucessful):

Central African Republic (2000), the UN mission to the Central African Republican wasn't a total failure in the word. They were able to stop the fighting and turned it over to a political mission. However, coups took place in either 2002 or 2003 which resulted in the overthrow of the ruler and military rule which is working.
