See ya'll soon! Who is going to represent Canada?

Mon Oct 17, 5:45 PM ET
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Amid worries about North Korea's nuclear weapons and outbreaks of bird flu, US President George W. Bush will visit Japan, South Korea, China and Mongolia in November, his spokesman said.

The trip will be anchored on the November 18-19 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum summit in the South Korean city of Busan, where Bush will also hold one-on-one meetings with world leaders, said spokesman Scott McClellan.

While Bush has traveled to Japan, China and South Korea before, it will be his first trip to Mongolia as president. Aides say he wants to emphasize the rise of Mongolian democracy, which is less than two decades old.

The president will start in Japan, where he will arrive November 15 and meet with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi a day later.

Bush then heads to South Korea, where he will meet with South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun November 17 in the city of Gyeongju and attend the two-day summit, where he hopes to make progress on lowering trade barriers.

McClellan declined to say what leaders Bush would meet on the sidelines of the APEC meeting, telling reporters that the president's final schedule was still being worked out.

The 21-member group includes Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.

The United States, Russia, Japan, China and South Korea have been in talks with North Korea in a bid to convince Pyongyang to give up nuclear weapons in return for increased acceptance in the international community.

RE: Bush to visit Japan,

Bush has nothing to worry about reguarding what North Korea has or does not have if he minds his own business and stops meddling in the affairs of other countries.

If NK could be bribed and follow US doctrine he would not be complaining. Bush is the biggest terrorist this planet has ever known.

Undoubtedly, Ralph Goodale, our Finance Minister will be there to present the Voluntary Action Plan for Supporting Freer and More Stable Capital Flows since this is a joint Canadian, New Zealand, and Chile Initiative.

Probably Paul Martin will attend that since finance once was his bailiwick.

Meanwhile, no doubt, a legion of American diplomats will try to insure that Bush doesn’t call another head-of-state a piece-of -work, again.

We've got a bit of a head start on you here, Uncle. John McCallum just got back from China. He was there to open the way for us to sell our oil to them. Oh, and our softwood too.

See, we're building a pipeline from the oilsands to the BC coast because China wants about 400,000 barrels of Canadian oil a day.

Perhaps you should watch the news. Orin Hatch was...he made a speech today talking about the importance of Canadian oil and alternative oil sources such as the oilsands. Seems that some are getting a little nervous about where your country will get its energy if you keep pissing people off and breaking trade deals.

Why they're even exempted from the Kyoto Treaty.

Not really, just slated to come on board in 2015. They've also expressed a keen interest in alternative energy sources...everything from nuclear power to wind power to hydroelectric to hydrogen.

What happened to this thread? - It's a mile wide, and an inch deep.....

Anytime "they"announce bush's travel plans......one has to cringe and feel a tremendous amount of sympathy for the "hosting' countries. During the so called visits the security issues are described as hell personified. The whole area goes into a suspended animation state until the traveller-bushman- leaves......which is highly disruptive to the every day workings of things. The expense is horrendous.

In this hi tech age.......why not go with video conferencing and let it go at that. Not sure they accomplish all that much during these face to face meetings..... except a series of photoshoots which they too must "hate" by now.

just some idle musings.....

Just yesterday our newspaper had an article on the front page called "O, Canada." I posted a similar link several days ago and no one was interested. I can't watch your news, silly.

Funny, init - China vs. Texas. Now that just don't seem fair. A whole country against one state? Here is another similar article:

Kinder Morgan plans to buy Terasen

by Carol Crump
Tuesday, October 4, 2005 1:46 PM MDT

For an approximate $5.6 billion purchase price, Kinder Morgan will acquire Terasen Inc.

The transaction, which is anticipating approval by Terasen shareholders and the British Columbia Utilities Commission, will create a leading North American energy transportation and distribution company with a value of approximately $19 billion. Approval is expected by the end of 2005.

Terasen began in 1951 as Trans Mountain, a company chartered by the Parliament of Canada to construct a 715-mile pipeline that still serves as the key link between Alberta's oilfields and the West Coast.

The pipeline is unique in that it was modified from transporting just crude oil to batch refined products along with the crude.

Guess we will just have to wait and see.

They get together and drink expensive scotch and snort coke, Ocean. These politicians are all party boys.

would go with that one.

(and occassionally make an "official" appearance for the photoshoots.. .........as after all it IS the taxpayers money that keeps these bozos employed...

(rumor has it that bush leads them in line dancing........;-)--but only after ingesting at least half a 40 oz'er of "presidential special" go figure.)
