OK, then, who would you vote for?

It's beyond obvious that almost everyone on this forum dislikes Bush. OK. Fine.

If an election were called tomorrow, and if you were American and could vote - who would you vote for?

I'd like to hear it. I have no clue. No clue. The people I admire and like wouldn't want to be president. So, let's have your ideas.
I'm serious - a real US citizen and your reasons why you would vote for him/her.

I like either John McCain, Republican Senator from Arizona or Joe Biden, Democratic Senator from Delaware or former Mayor of NYC, Guliani.

I have little hope those 3 will get through the gauntlet of primaries.

The one who will surprise everyone might be Haley Barbour, Governor of Mississippi.

Former NY mayor Guliani would make a great president. I don't know about McCain, as he is a closet Democrat. House speaker Dennis Hastert made a good comment recently ... "John McCain, is he a Republican or a Democrat".

Newt Gingrich would also make a good president.

Many good candidates out there.

Ralph Nader. Dean has some good policy ideas. Dennis Kucinich (I always spell that wrong). I doubt any of them will be running in '08 though. Nader is looking pretty fed up, Dean has been more or less sidelined with his new position, and I doubt Dennis Kucinich will ever have enough money to put up a real run.

No women? If sentiment has indeed turned against Bush and the Repubs, then the perfect cure is a woman. Not Hitlary Clinton. I have met her, and she is domineering, rude and SO two-faced.

My first choice would be Barbara Jordan, but she is dead. I like Maria Shriver in 10 years. Can't think of a woman right now that is prime - can you?

If I could have thought of one, I would have listed her. Clinton is better than anybody the Republicans have. That should likely be "anybody else" that they Republicans have. Like Bill, Hillary is more of a classic Republican than a Democrat.

Why is it in America, that if a Pol can get both sides of the House to at least discuss and collaborate on a few things, they are a "Closet Democrat"or a ''RINO". And if it's a Dem that they are talking about, they are "chickenhawks"?

Has it gotten so bad that NOBODY wants to get along anymore???

John McCain......... I would actually consider voting for McCain if he runs...... I think a republi-crat could be a good idea in 2008 to maybe depolarize the country.

.....I voted Bush in Nov 04 even though I was not happy with the outsourcing and some other economic issues, but I felt that Kerry would not be able to handle the war and the country at the time.....premature withdrawl would be devistating to both Iraq and America.

.... but I think by 2008 Afghanistan and Iraq hopefully willbe stable enough to be able to pull out..... and Americas focus will be on electing someone to take on the economy, debt and tighten up the fiscal belt. I would be open to both Republicans and Democrats.

Sad thing is that there is no front runner coming out right now but McCain has the name recognition! Hillary R. Clinton is too polarizing in politics.

I forward the name of Charlie Melancon, D-LA#3, Cong Dist #3 or the Riding of Houma-Thibodaux for future consideration!

Anybody but the Bush Bros. JEB is getting itchy and he did not steal enuff from the Savings and loans to tide him over!

Dr. Phil. .......... the job needs a lot more psychology background than is present ......particularly in this era.

(only half kidding folks.)........ Dr. Phil is clever, intelligent ( two different things) , politic- savy, media confident, articulate, a true negotiator. .......a realist and an all round no bullcrap type of guy.

*unfortunately it is MONEY and lots of it that factors in , in US elections. Not intelligence, capability .....and other qualities of virtue and true leadership.

Too early and too young, zen - but I like the way you think - If he does a good job, and stays away from the Fringe element like Splash and Jackson - watch him in 2012 or 2016....

MY GOD! If I make it to 2016, and that's a BIG "if", I'll be 65!!!

If I make it to 2016, I'll feel 95.

McCain is too hotheaded. The notion that Kerry could have mishandled the war in Iraq worse than Bush already has is laughable. So is the thought that it will be over by 2008.

Chomsky would be a great choice for president. So would Amy Goodman from NPR. They aren't likely to run though.

I still say that they (AND we) should legislate that "NOTA" (None Of The Above) be mandatory on every balllot - I'd dearly love to know what kind of numbers that would garner... ;)
