Whatever happened to peer review?


A far-reaching inquiry into the careers of three of the US's most senior climate specialists has been launched by Joe Barton, the chairman of the House of Representatives committee on energy and commerce. He has demanded details of all their sources of funding, methods and everything they have ever published.

Mr Barton, a Texan closely associated with the fossil-fuel lobby, has spent his 11 years as chairman opposing every piece of legislation designed to combat climate change.

I think it's bloody well time that the American people and the science community demanded an investigation into Barton and everybody on his committee. Every bit of their funding and every decision they've ever made should be made fully public.

This is a result of the illegitimate attacks on Mann's "hockey stick" graph, by the way. McItrick and McIntyre, the bozos who launched the attack on behalf of their oil industry funders, have been discredited time and again for their misuse of data and misrepresentation of facts, as well as abuse of the peer review process.
