THE POLITICAL WAR
Issue of 2004-09-27
Posted 2004-09-20

Earlier this year, the United States Agency for International Development, or U.S.A.I.D., hired a team of independent experts to go to Iraq and evaluate the agency’s programs there. The experts came back with a mixed review that included plenty of reason for worry: the reconstruction of Iraq was taking place in an ad-hoc fashion, without a consistent strategy, without the meaningful participation or advice of Iraqis, within paralyzing security constraints, and amid unrealistic claims of success. But something happened to the report on the way to publication. U.S.A.I.D. kept sending parts of it back for revision, draft after draft, weeding out criticism, until the agency finally approved a version for internal use which one member of the team called “a whitewash” of his findings. Another expert said, “It’s so political, everything going on out there. They just didn’t want to hear any bad news.” Pointing out that some of the numbers posted on the agency’s Web site were overly optimistic, he concluded, “They like to make their sausage their way.”

cost of war. incredible. Boggles the mind.

and this is only the "dollar' part of it. The destruction of ancient architecture, the thousands of lives , ........

Wondering how much more "national debt" the US can afford.

Understand it is in the trillions of dollars now.

Hi mrmom: just read the item. Interesting that many of those that did not support the invasion, were aware of many of the facts on the site. --BEFORE the invasion.

( but then facts have not stood in the way for the current US administration, have they??? :-(

btw: very good link.......thanks.:)

Incredible. (did not know that one). Thought that Haliburton had those contracts wrapped up. (or is Halliburton in bed with the Bin Ladens' too??)

No wonder the Bin Laden family was so quickly "escorted" out of the US post 9-11. Hmmm.

They were escorted out on 9/11. The only plane to fly out of the US. Strange but true. Not only are they in bed but by now they have little Bin Bushes

a few more quotes: (they seem to indicate the current "state " of the nation. (and how it has changed)

"Be not intimidated... nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery and cowardice: John Adams

=

What a stupendous, what an incomprehensible machine is man! Who can endure toil, famine, stripes, imprisonment & death itself in vindication of his own liberty, and the next moment ... inflict on his fellow men a bondage, one hour of which is fraught with more misery than ages of that which he rose in rebellion to oppose: Thomas Jefferson

Ah, the founding fathers of the United States. If I had a time machine I'd go and pick them up so they kick George Bush and his cabinet senseless in the White House Rose Garden.

Can you imagine how disgusted they'd be by what these pissant miscreants have done to the country they started?
