The FBI is more interested in the over-charging in Iraq though. The Security and Exchanges Commission is the US agency most interested in what happened when Cheney was CEO.
I thought Cheney was going to walk until the Brits got in on the action. The Republicans were painting the whole thing as a politically motivated attack by the French and the few Americans that noticed were willing to buy that. I thought Cheney would get a slap on the wrist.
The British being involved changes all of that. The Republicans can't write it off as sour grapes over Iraq (that never made sense in the first place because f the time frame, but it was working) because the British are US allies.
Cheney could, according to things that Judge Van Ruymbeke has said, not only be forced to testify and maybe be fined, he could end up in prison over this. The French have been taking their corruption investigations very seriously since Rwanda.
