Charles in charge? Queen preparing to abdicate: Report

Fears are mounting that 91-year-old Queen Elizabeth is on the cusp of abdicating the throne, according to British media reports.
And that would leave Charles in charge.
The Daily Mail is reporting the Queen told top aides she is looking at tossing out her tiara when she turns 95.
“I have spoken to a number of high-ranking courtiers who made it clear that preparations for a transition are moving ahead at pace,” royal commentator Robert Jobson told the newspaper.
“They have all confirmed that a Regency with Charles taking the lead is now, at the very least, a real possibility.”
So far, official royal channels remain tight-lipped about so-called Plan Regency.
Charles would gain full power even though the Queen would still be alive.
“Out of the profound respect the Queen holds for the institution of monarchy and its stewardship, Her Majesty would want to make sure that she has done everything she can for her country and her people before she hands over. She is dutiful to her core,” a royal source told the Daily Mirror.
“Her Majesty is mindful of her age and wants to make sure when the time comes, the transition of the Crown is seamless.
“I understand the Queen has given the matter considerable thought and believes that, if she is still alive at 95, she will seriously consider passing the reigns to Charles.”
Such a move would make Charles king in all but name.
The Queen’s husband, Prince Philip, retired from royal duties last month.
She is our longest-reining monarch and remains hugely popular in the U.K., Canada and throughout the Commonwealth.
Her Majesty may have packed away the crown and sceptre years ago if not for a scandal that has haunted the monarchy for decades.
The Queen’s uncle, Edward VIII, quit the throne in 1936 to marry the twice-divorced Wallis Simpson, “the woman he loved.”
The last Prince Regent was appointed in 1811 after George III suffered episodes of mental illness and his eldest son was asked to take over his duties. George IV was an unmitigated disaster.

This seems out of character. I don't think I can believe it until she actually does it.

No. it sounds like fake news to me, too. If she has some sort of degenerative condition that is going to leave her unable to function, maybe but I don't see that happening to her ... yet, anyway.

The last time that Liz leaves the palace, it will be feet first. And the way that the world is going, Chas will be the last king. Monarchies are a thing of the past. One can still display their pomp and circumstance, but charge for the privilege.

There are those who say that the monarchy brings in lots of tourist dollars. It still will, even with no king or queen actively sitting on the throne. Keep the castles in good shape. Put suits of armour, costumes and battle implements on display, and people will come.

Let the monarchy die a natural death. Harry, William and the rest of the young royals have sufficient skills to make it in the world. Some will never have to work because of inheritances. Free them from useless mall openings and boy scout jamborees.

Mabe, Chas will get " the chop" like that previous Chas did.

It's doubtful. Few people care about the monarchy.

The only thing I would say is that if someone wanted to help end his rule quickly, his beheading would be an option. I am quite sure some of selfsame's friends would do it for the pure joy of bloodletting.

There might be blood in the streets!

They have always had a plan in place, but it needs constant revisions. The older she gets, the more things have to change.

Years ago, the Canadian Broadcorping Castration ran a documentary made in the 1960s, about what happens should Liz check out early. Everything is in place for a smooth "revolution" of power.

Sometimes I think that newswriters, especially the younger ones, should research their stories better than they have been in the past. They would discover that Buckingham Palace is ready for Liz' demise - as is the government, the diplomatic corps and 'waste management professionals'.

Routes are planned out for the funerals. Black flags are sitting in boxes in dusty warehouses. Radio announcements, songs and programming alterations are ready to go. From the government side, all official engagements are ready to kick in. Assassins are ready to take out naughty, uncooperative royals and difficult, elected officials. They even know where, when and in what outfit Liz will be buried in. Same for Phil, Chuck, Harry, William et al. No royal rock goes unturned.

Even this silly news article is part of the Palace's pre-planning. Although the snowflakes of the world will probably think that it's unfair for her to die and leave them without a cool queen.

Next hour we'll be talking about what to eat on the day that a royal dies. Is there a culinary protocol for "death dining"? Heck, yeah! Join us for CNN's* in depth look on what you should eat as royals are dying around you.

As well, my understanding is that the Queen's horses can not outlive her. It's an old, typically British, antiquated belief. They will all be put down and added to Marmite.

It's just planning. That's actually a smart thing. People in their 90s can have lots of health problems. They shoulda put together this plan 10 years back.

You have to wait on a list to get into a nursing home. These old people like the Queen live in denial and apply for them when it's too late and it has become a crisis.

I've seen it happen over and over.
