Just like an anniversary card delivered late, a Finnish film without subtitles or the ultrasonic squeal of a baby Tarsier monkey – you just won’t feel it.
But take it from me, outside the bubble in which you live there is a crackling in the air. A tension.

That angry feeling people get when they try to speak to their boss and see in his eyes that he is only pretending to listen, that he is never going to change because he thinks he knows best.
And now they are back at their desk fuming.
We are the 17.4million people who voted for Brexit. Sitting here fuming at our ‘boss’. Seventeen point four million good people, all sick of not being heard.
All feeling compelled to raise our voice until we cannot be ignored; to take a pee in the water cooler; to storm out and march about the foyer naked with ‘Why don’t you listen, you arrogant bastards?’ tattooed on our backside.
In the United States, too, more meetings with a boss who doesn’t listen. And here the figure is sixty million. Sixty million people who voted for Trump because they believe it is the right thing for America.
Sixty million people living outside the metropolitan bubble, the confluence of apathetic power, waiting to be told their voice isn’t worth listening to, either.

Funds are being raised for a recount in the key states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, where the losing team hopes to reverse the outcome, giving Clinton the win. $3.8million was banked in just 4 hours.
This team is fronted by the walking irrelevance, Green Party candidate Jill Stein. She says: ‘We are not doing this because we expect the result to be overturned. We are doing this because the American people deserve to have confidence in the voting system.’
First off, Jill, know this: the people are not stupid. They don’t believe a word you have been paid to say. The Establishment asked the people a question and didn’t like the answer it got. Apparently Trump was the wrong answer.
Second up, the American people did have confidence in the voting system. That’s why over 100 million of them bothered to stand in line to have their voice heard.
The same reason 72.2 per cent of the UK voting population turned out for the Brexit vote. Because people believed in the system.
But as Americans will discover to their peril, and Brits are already learning, the system is a lie.

Meanwhile the media are indulging themselves in the fate of Jo Cox’s killer because Vote Leave ‘clearly’ had a hand in her death too.
David Aaronovitch noted in his Times column: ‘The direction of the Brexit campaign … had emboldened extremism’. He goes on to say: 'While they themselves were in no way permissive of the act, might they in some way have been permissive of the motive? Or even of the mood?'

I’d suggest Jo Cox’s killer, Thomas Mair, was a weird old loner with mental issues and the media have maxed out on coverage of the trial of her killer because it suits their agenda.
Tony Blair, the most hated politician in history, has waltzed back into the frame saying, ‘If you offer the people soft Brexit, they may realise there is no point leaving at all,’ — as if we are thick, or children, or he had forgotten his microphone was on and we could actually hear him be that patronising.
To explain away Trump’s election, the media and Establishment are fixated on ‘post-truth politics’ — the idea that people are so stupid they believed fake news stories and were therefore tricked into voting for a white supremacist.
They still don’t get it, do they? People voted for Trump because of this type of narrative. Because of the condescension. Because they are sick of being treated as the little people. Because they wanted a man who had a real life and a job. Because they are sick of being lied to by The Establishment.
I am listening to the voices outside of London. Watching the people in the towns and countryside across the country. The people I live amongst. The people who live in that other, ignored place called ‘the rest of the UK’.

And you know what? We have done with being angry. That feeling of wanting to p*** in the water cooler and protest in the foyer has evolved.
Something darker is now lurking in our hearts. It’s not despondency. Despondency is safe — it’s giving up, it’s sitting unresponsive in the corner, an old person in a home.
This is far more sinister. This is a pressure cooker whose lid is being screwed tighter while the temperature rises. This is an angry animal, forced into a cage and tormented, determined to find itself free.
Now we are taxpayers paying for a system that doesn’t give us a say, our options held ransom by the government — yet for every pound we put into the public purse, no promised exchange takes place.
These jokers take a thief’s share of our salary, of the money we spend, of the money we save, of the debt we accrue and the deaths we endure. And in return we are told our voices don’t matter. Don’t count.

We watch NHS nurses struggle to find time to give our mother a drink in hospital; we sell her home to pay for nursing care; and when she dies HMRC comes calling to demand death duties and inheritance taxes while we are still grieving.
And we agree to be treated like this by the system for what? To discover what? That we didn’t even earn the right to vote?
We are left with nothing.
As I sweat softly in the tension surrounding me in the pressure cooker of the UK, I look to America and hope and pray they do not allow a recount to present a new choice for President.
Seventeen point four million people in the UK. Sixty million people in the USA. More acutely aware than at any time in our lives that money trumps democracy. And democracy might well be a lie.
That something we believed in our whole lives, along with everything we used to know, no longer makes any sense.
They say people with nothing to lose are the most dangerous of all. I think the Establishment both here and in the United States may be about to learn the biggest threat to peace and order in their respective countries will be entirely of their own making.
