Gee, what a novel idea of conservatism.

Maybe our socialist Western governments might take the hint.

China Announces Cuts of 300,000 Troops at Military Parade Showing Its Might

BEIJING — President Xi Jinping of China announced on Thursday that he would reduce the country’s military personnel by 300,000, using a parade marking 70 years since the end of World War II to present the People’s Liberation Army as a force for peace and regional stability.

The Chinese military has more than two million members, and Mr. Xi has embarked on an accelerated modernization of the armed forces, which would shift spending from the traditional land forces to more advanced sea and air forces, which require fewer but better trained personnel.

Speaking on a platform overlooking Tiananmen Square, he described the cut as a gesture of peace — at a time when China’s neighbors have grown increasingly worried about its territorial claims and military strength.

“I announce that China will reduce military personnel numbers by 300,000,” he said, after declaring that the military was “loyally committed to its sacred duty of defending the security of the motherland and the peaceful life of the people, and loyally committed to the sacred duty of safeguarding world peace.”

The cut would shrink military forces to two million personnel, the China News Service, a state-run agency, said.

In announcing the cuts, the largest in nearly two decades, Mr. Xi signaled his determination to press forward with his agenda of military restructuring despite China’s economic slowdown. The government will be under pressure to find jobs for the demobilized soldiers, many with limited skills.

If Canada tried to cut its army by 300,000 you wouldn't have an army left, because your current army numbers only a tiny 50,600.

As for mighty China, it can cut its army by 300,000 and still have an army the size of a small country.

Just think. That's more than enough to invade Britain just using the women that are losing their jobs.

They'd have to send their men too to invade Canada unlike Britian.

Taking one Britain is easy. Canada is like invading 43 Britain's. That would require men. Alot more than just the Chinese women that just lost their jobs that it would take to control Britain.

Obviously, but how often does any country cut it's military?

We should at least proportionally be following suit.

It would make a good case to cut taxes.

Oh I forgot.

Conbots don't care about taxes.

Those are job cuts. You want job cuts? Jobs youth rely on that pay for or acquire post secondary degrees and journeyman TQs?

There is nothing worth taking.

No. It's just that everyone who has tried since the Normans in 1066 have failed, including Napoleon and Hitler. Even when foreign troops HAVE managed to land in Britain, it has ended laughably and embarrassingly for the invaders.

The last time Britain was invaded was by the French in 1797, who were led by an American named William Tate, during the First War of the Coalition. The French force landed in Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, in south west Wales, on 22nd February 1797.

As Napoleon had apparently reserved the cream of the Republican army for duties elsewhere in Europe, Colonel Tate's force comprised a ragtag collection of soldiers, including many newly released jailbirds.

Upon landing, discipline broke down amongst the irregulars, many of whom deserted to loot nearby settlements. The remaining troops confronted a quickly assembled group of around 500 British reservists, militia and sailors under the command of John Campbell, 1st Baron Cawdor.

However, it wasn't long before before the French surrendered - in true French style - and twelve of them even managed to be rounded up by a pitch-fork wielding woman named Jemima Nicholas aka Jemima Fawr ("Jemima the Great"), the wife of a Fishguard cobbler. When she heard of the invasion, she marched out to Llanwnda, pitchfork in hand, and rounded up twelve Frenchmen. She ‘persuaded’ them to accompany her back into town, where she locked them inside St Mary’s Church and promptly left to look for some more.

As for the American Tate, he ended up surrendering. The surrender agreement drawn up by Tate's officers referred to the British coming at them "with troops of the line to the number of several thousand." No such troops were anywhere near Fishguard. However hundreds, perhaps thousands, of local Welsh women dressed in their traditional scarlet tunics and tall black felt hats had come to witness any fighting between the French and the local men of the militia. Is seems that at a distance, and after a glass or two, these women were mistaken for British army Redcoats!

Once the gold the Brits had stolen was stolen by someone else there was no reason to invade. Nobody invades for sheep and moss. Even the trees were gone.

I wonder if China has all those spare jobs to fit the 300,000 into.

Ah, the dreams of bygone centuries.
UK doesn't have much that anyone would want, face it.

Your biggest export is autos. Do you have any idea how many other countries make autos and could take up the slack if the UK dropped off the globe? lol
What else? There's refines petroleum, unrefined petroleum, packaged medications, and gas turbines. Those are your top exports. The primary resources for all of which come from other countries.
But this topic is not about the UK anyways.

A 24 hr 365 day a year nonstop China's Got Talent show.
hahaha I'd watch a little.

Heck no. Have to make room in the watching schedule for food shows and mysteries.
