A British millionaire accused of trying to buy missile parts from undercover American agents and resell them to Iran pleaded guilty Thursday in a deal that would carry nearly three years in prison but could allow him to serve much of that time in his native United Kingdom.

Christopher Tappin, 66, a retired shipping magnate, had faced charges of conspiracy to illegally export defense articles, aiding and abetting the illegal export of defense articles and conspiracy to conduct illegal financial transactions.

He pleaded guilty to one count of the indictment Thursday at a hearing in El Paso, Texas. The deal calls for 33 months in prison, but as part of the agreement, prosecutors agreed not to oppose his request to be transferred back to his home country. He had faced up to 35 years in prison.

The article does not say where the transaction took place. Was he in the US or is this another case of the US applying it's laws within a foreign sovereign nation? Just wondering.

This is not about capitalism or socialism its about a traitor who is so greedy he will sell out
society for his own self interest. There are many capitalists who would not sell out their
country.
We have people who have no conscience and they are the public face that disgraces a whole
society at times. Today conscience is in short supply but to state it is due to a specific
ideology is a bit of a rush to judgement

Who did he pay off to only do 3 years?
Nobody. It's the going rate for something mainly politicians and defense contractors usually get nailed with.

If they really wanted to nail his *** they should have stuffed a joint in his pocket.

Hmmm... Didn't both Obama and Biden swear on a stack of bibles that Iran had no capacity to deliver a nuclear payload via missles during the debates?

.. And a US sting operation to boot.. Sure makes the WH admin look silly
Probably one of Bush's cousins.

No self-righteous Texan would go by the name Christopher... maybe Billy Saul, Stetson or Alamo; but never Christpoher

I'm not sure where Kit (Christopher) Carson was from but probably near by.

P.S.
I guess he was from Missouri.........................close enough!
