(AFP) — France on Monday unveiled a package of reforms designed to increase access to abortion, including 100 percent reimbursement of medical costs by the state social security system.

At present French women are only able to claim back between 70 and 80 percent of the costs, which average between 200 and 450 euros depending on whether the abortion is induced by medication taken at home or carried out by surgical procedure in a clinic.

The change to full reimbursement was included in the 2013 social security budget unveiled on Monday. In a statement the government said the move was “necessary to ensure all women have equal access to abortion.”

The move follows a long campaign by pro-choice organisations and was a manifesto promise by Socialist President Francois Hollande ahead of his election victory in June.

The government also announced that it would increase the amounts clinics are allowed to charge for carrying out abortions to bring them closer into line with their real costs and to facilitate better support for patients.

As it should be.

Does a government have to be socialist to fund a basic medical service? I believe abortions are fully funded in all parts of
Canada as well. Please correct me if I am in error.

I believe life begins at conception. That said, in principle any government service ought to be either 0% or 100% funded so as to ensure all benefit equally. If it's 0% funded, it's equal in that everyone has to pay out of pocket. If 100%, it's freely accessible to all regardless of ability to pay. When it's funded anywhere in between, it means those who can afford the difference end up getting the service subsidized while whose who can't afford it don't get to benefit from it. Then we're in a position of the government subsidizing the rich, ironically enough. I hold the same view of post-secondary education. It ought to be either 100% or 0% funded to ensure equality for all.

Then, logically, you believe that in vitro fertilization is not just murder, but mass murder.

Abortion is NOT a medical procedure.. it does not respond to a sickness. Pregnancy is in fact a healthy and natural condition.. on which the sustainability of the human race depends. Then if not medical... it's a lifestyle choice.. one that ruthlessly eradicates one life for the gratuitous benefit of another.

One cannot underestimate how corrosive this becomes for a society if legitimized as a 'right' and who then fund it as an obligation. It essentially undermines all rights.. by reducing the value of a human life to nothing more than a comparison of competing personal interests between one individual and another.. with those least able to defend themselves as the victims. Immediately those with handicaps and near death become as vulnerable as the unborn.. 'useless eaters'.. expensive to maintain.. and a burden on the finances of the those with vigour. It won't stop there!

Over time it'll be disastrous.. it will destroy the democracy, the economy.. and any concept of liberty.. chaos and a New Dark Age loom

It's all around us now.. Look at the state of collapsing Western economies.. polarization of society..... There'll be shock and shock.. we already see them on the horizon in Europe. They'll be attributed to mundane issues like debt.. or lack of innovation.. but a pervasive loss of any sense of destiny or purpose to human life propels it.. an overshadowing by a Culture of Death that is already upon us

Economies collapse by way of declining populations.. which is more often than not caused by societal rather than natural phenomenon. The cult of radical individualism and self absorption has reduced fertility rates in the West to in some cases 1.3 or less per couple. Gone is any rational concept of family.. replaced by an absurd sentimental artifice. We no longer have any legitimate building block for bringing up the next generation in secure and loving environments for increasing per centages of the population.

As to the original topic of this thread.. the issue of legitimzing and paying for abortion, in fact extolling it a human right, shows how all sense of liberty and democracy has been deformed to conform to a social structure of moral relativism, without any kind of integrity or substance to sustain itself.

Get at least this, if you can draw yourself from the sophistry and nonsense that comprise politically correct thought. Abortion is NOT a medical procedure. It endangers the life of the mother immediately and has profound negative effects on her health in the long term.. psychological and physical.. including a dramatic increase in the liklihood of Breast Cancer AND it is always fatal for the child. To call this a medical procedure is a gross and cuel mockery of the term. So what it France doing.. it bears the hallmarks of mass INSANITY.. a culture no longer able to differentiate between good and evil.. and act in its own long term best interests.

Bunkers won't help.. not if the food supply is taken over bands of vagabonds and rogue armies. How long. When Greco Roman culture collapsed in the 6th Century.. it did so quite suddenly and from unexpected directions.. certainly within 50 - 100 years. Barbarians seemed to appear at the Gates out of nowhere.

One of the most notable aspects though was the free fall in population.. as the structures of civilization could no longer support the numbers of people. And of course it was preceded by the corruption of the political integrity of the Roman Empire.. and the rise irrational pagan cults.. and the loss of any cohesive colllective conscience. The latter things are already upon us.

It doesn't take a prophet to see we are heading down sh*t creek, without a paddle.
