Exxon just announced it is pulling all its resources out of Poland.

Poland had much hyped "massive shale gas reserves".
Poland also needed to move away from (A) its dependance on dirty coal and (B)it's dependance on pipelined Russian gas.
The discoveries of large shale gas fields was a godsend.
Manna from heaven for the Poles.

Exxon has announced that Polish shale gas is far to expensive to develop at this time.
Delineation wells, having undergone very expensive multi stage frac jobs are proving out to be relatively poor producers.
Exxon holds the rights to most of Polands choice formations.

It's a crushing blow for Poland and it's aspirations to move solidly into Europe as a first tier nation.

David Suzuki must be thrilled at the stoppage in potential frac jobs.

Now the Poles can go back to sending their young down the mines to scratch out an economy.

Perhaps we should look at Poland..thrilled to have discovered potentially massive clean gas reserves and the large resultant economical and employment benefits.
Now its future hopes and dreams appear crushed.
As VS Quebec which appears to have tight sweet gas reserves and chooses not to develop them because stimulation may be required ( a frac job).

Ain't life strange.

First of all I have some issues with fracking, but the only way we are going to find
out if it is really harmful or not is to do some detailed work on the issue itself. If it
proves to be a serious environmental hazard so be it, but if not we can proceed
with it as a normal practice. All we have at the moment is suspicions and the old
I believe routine. What are the facts? Pick an area and find out what those are.
yes I would be prepared for government to pay part of the cost as an investment
in the study to find out once and for all.
If it is proved safe or minimal damage then let the fracking projects get going. If
it is worse than expected then we have decisions to make with regard to the good
of the country.

No kidding. It's every country's dream to use up its easily accessible resources so that we can make more expensive less accessible resources more profitable.
