Interesting post, I'd go along with Greed as #1, maybe lack of consideration as #2, Another big one is people who earn big bucks, yet will not make decisions or if they do won't take responsibility for them. (Passing the buck)

Twelve deadly sins? I thought there were only seven.

May I add one?
Humanity's belief it is apart from nature, rather than a part of nature.

But how else can we rape and pillage the planet if we were part of it?

What have they done to the earth?
What have they done to our fair sister?
Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her
Stuck her with knives in the side of the dawn
And tied her with fences and dragged her down - The Doors

I think a lot of your issues are symptoms rather than root causes, and some of them are redundant, and many are related. For example power hunger is a manifestation of greed, and poverty is one of the symptoms that appears once it takes hold.

I think Spade and Dexter Sinister hit the root of many of our problems, especially our over population: people with space and ample resources tend to be more forgiving and easier to get along with (i.e. our national identity with the rest of the world).

Our rational minds create tools that change everything very quickly. Our "fight or flight" instinct evolved to deal with a "eat or be eaten" environment, and will take eons to simmer down. It's a formula for disaster - apes with nukes - but since we can't (and shouldn't even want to) stop our rational activities, maybe we need to figure out how to "tame" our instincts before we get the keys to the car.

I like this world; things are pretty good. Some people are assholes but I avoid them as much as possible. As was sung in THE LIFE OF BRIAN, "Always look on the bright side of life."
