If the government knew of the 9/11 attacks what would be different.

According to the audiotapes that have surfaced over the years the terrorists did not identify themselves until they were on the final approach to the target to the air traffic controllers.

There are hundreds of commercial flights over America at any given time so the terrorist flights could only be identified while they were in the air.

The government did not know the day this would occur just that it would happen.

The government has a good track record on preventing an attack but could they have been able stop 9/11 attacks while they were in progress without any major loss of life?

Not much. Any planning for such an eventuality should have occurred long before 9/11, whether it involved beefed up airport security, air marshalls, compulsory martial arts training for flight attendants and pilots, or whatever other strategy that could be immagined.

My problem is nothing would of really change how many people would of believe in from the start? My problem it start at the airport with sercuirty check faild. next... many people on airplanes had to notice some odd things and sat there not trying to fight back.

thirdly the budlings understand "biggest tallest ones" but there needs to be more fire route exists. it seem to be a shorts of it. the other thing i just read is radio had issues working.

there many things that would of or should of tip government off. it fail at airport and after that nothing you can do now.

You remember a lot. Sad you can't seem to remember to have a little respect for the dead though.

Depends what you're supposing the government could have known. If they'd had specific intel about people, date, location, and targets, the attacks would have been prevented, nothing would have happened except 19 guys would have been arrested before they could swing into action. If they'd had less specific intel but enough to recognize the operation was underway once it began, the planes might have been intercepted and diverted or shot down, maybe evacuation of the targets could have begun. Part of the problem was that air defenses look outward, they're not routinely set up to readily detect an attack that begins from inside the country, so if they'd known a hijacking was in the works maybe they'd have been looking in the right direction. And of course there's the foolish beyond description tinfoil hat brigade that believes the government not only knew about the attacks but orchestrated them, in which case we'd know about it by now and some former high American officials would be in jail. Or dead. You can do an infinite number of "what if" scenarios and what might have been different, but except for the ones that can discover fixable weaknesses in the security apparatus, they don't go anywhere useful.

Oh, I have respect for the dead. There were a lot of Canadian soldiers who lost their lives fighting the yankee's rediculous war. Yes, I have respect for them, even the ones killed by yankee fire...

Little? I'd say none.

I try to conduct myself with a little dignity even when dealing with completely undignified statements.

When I'm not being sassy and sarcastic that is, ;)

I just watched the memorial service in Gander. Really nice, very moving. Nice speech by the Ambassador, he seemed genuinely moved and quite choked up while giving it.

I remember my mother calling up to her cousins in Newfoundland to thank them upon hearing what they did for the grounded passengers. That was class and compassion at it's finest.

I've never been to Newfoundland, would love to go someday but I will say that I have never, ever met a Newfoundlander that I didn't absolutely love! They really are truly amazing, genuine people with big hearts.

and yet...... your wacko politicians and commentators still accuse Canada of "letting in" the 9/11 hijackers. There's REAL thanks for ya. 10 years later, and americans still don't have enough brains to figure out where the attack came from.

Dude... give it a rest. A few Yanks spout off and you get all bent because your ears are so tuned in for ANY type of this talk.

Just like that billboard in Montana... MONTANA... sent all the thin skinned ones bouncing off the forum walls.
