He was a good journalist. I knew CNN would turf him when he stopped representing the jaded, cynical post structural political agency that the media calls 'objectivity'. Part of it came with his 1998 conversion to Catholicism which increasingly had him questioning all the tenets of the accepted, modern moral order. He came on on an appearance on CNN on Ash Wednesday, with the Ashes still on his forehead. He was gone a couple of weeks later.
