January 27, 2009 NEWARK, N.J. - A Roman Catholic priest from Poland who admitted fondling a 16-year-old girl during a flight to the U.S. has been sentenced to a year in prison.

A federal judge in Newark ordered Tomasz Zielinski to begin serving his sentence immediately.

The incident occurred last July on a LOT Polish Airlines flight from Warsaw to Newark Liberty International Airport.
Prosecutors say Zielinski was seated next to the girl and began touching her inner thigh and groin area through her clothing. The girl asked to be moved to a different seat, and Zielinski later apologized to her.

He pleaded guilty in October to a felony charge of abusive sexual contact.

The priest was associated with a church in Manville.

Sadly I agree with you. The defence will probably argue that she asked for it. This will put enough pressure on her that she will probably withdraw her charge.

Why is this news if it is a priest when nearly all women (large percentage of males too) will experience assault at one point or another?

Where does the idea that it is okay come from? A priest is a human first and foremost and apparently he did what humans do to other humans.

Is it because he is idolized? Remember back when truckers were idolized during the CB radio craze? Maybe the news should broaden their horizons and pick on diddler truckers for a week or so then move on to bikers or burly lumberjacks or some other stereotype?

When will diddlers in suits be popular?

No. I meant that they would likely kick the priest out because she wasn't a boy. All the others they just relocated the priest to a more understanding congregation.

When they have millions and billions of dollars, and start to try and tell million and billions of people how to conduct their lives in ways that they themselves can not.

legal age does not apply to non-consensual touching. A priest can't get away with running his hand up my thigh if it's unwelcome either. It is most definitely not just a matter for him and his boss.
