A biology teacher in Brazil is being sued for asking students to masturbate for a class project.

The teacher asked three teenagers to provide sperm samples (in other words: masturbate) so the class could study sperm under the microscope.


One of the students told his parents about the incident. His shocked parents immediately notified the police.

A spokesman for the police said: "It is a disrespectful and bizarre thing to ask a student, we are all horrified."

The school, located in Campo Grande, Rio de Janeiro, says it's equally appalled by the biology teacher's behaviour.

Right. Like they weren't doing it anyway. Let's all put our heads in the sand, shall we, and pretend not to think about anything to do with human sexuality, because of course it's so nasty and dirty and shameful... :rolleyes:

While I question the teacher's judgment (I would never had dared ask that to teenagers out of fear for reactions), this story really shows how sex is still a nasty taboo. Especially masturbation...

Well, this is fairly understandable. Brazil is still a strongly Catholic country. As I remember, the Catechism still declares masturbation as being quite sinful. Still, in High School students generally struggle with views about sexuality asking students to do this is a sure way to make them mocked by other students.

I don't think the issue is about masturbation. I think the issue is about a teacher asking students to do anything sexual. That's what's disturbing to me. It's innapropriate.

It's a bizarre and comical story. Yes, they're all doing it, in the privacy of their homes or over some webcam with their buddies. Surely, if the authorities are horrified that the practice might be entertained in a classroom then some modicum of revulsion should be preserved for those who do it secretly. Maybe it's time for Brazil to institute fines for masturbation. I'm surprised we don't have such in Canada already. The country is renowned for its controlling and bullying behaviour.

More of that silly male culture that high school boys live in.ALL the boys are, without a doubt, masturbating regularly, just as we were at that age.

I would have been upset maybe a little if the teacher had demanded that 3 specific students had submitted sperm, but this sounds like a voluntary thing to me. More PCness afoot.

well, whatever the reason. This is something that would disturb me as a parent. This is not something you ask boys to do for any reason. Anyway, as some have already pointed out, the boys are doing it anyway, as often as they can get their members in their hands. any guy can tell anybody that:)
