I can see the historical tablets now....
Here lies the remains of the birth of western democracy in this vast land called North America, where the people were the wealthiest, healthiest, living large group who had every advantage in all things from cradle to grave.
They wandered from the traditional values and beliefs whether those be religious or humanist or naturalist or animist..... and found a substitute which epitomized their need to follow....their desire to worship....their flawed selves seeking purification....their devout belief if they found an idol their prayers would continue to be fulfilled and answered....
...and the god was called OIL....
