Ssshock as snake pops out of toilet
By SUZANNE ROBERTS

Left: The unexpected guest in the family's toilet. Right: Daniel Peate found a nasty surprise during a trip to the loo.

A snake slithered up a drain pipe and popped its head out of a toilet in a Shropshire village as an 11-year-old boy was in the bathroom.

Daniel Peate, of Ruyton XI Towns (pronounced "Royton Eleven Towns"), spotted the creature as he was getting ready for bed on Monday evening.

The slippery snake, measuring about two-and-a-half feet, prevented other members of the family from using the toilet as it sat in the bowl for an hour-and-a-half before it slithered back down the pipe.

The snake was sandy brown and is believed to be a corn snake, a typical pet variety.

Daniel’s dad, David, said: “Daniel was getting ready for bed so he went to the bathroom and low and behold there it was. He was very cool and collected about it. He’s a bit of a prankster so I didn’t believe him at first, but I went in, lifted the lid, and there it was smiling at me.”

I don't mind snakes.

Around 9 years ago, I had a day out at Blackpool, a seaside resort, and there were a couple of men who owned a python that must have been almost 10 feet long. They were asking passers-by if they would like to have their photo taken whilst holding the snake - a person holding the head, a person holding the middle, and a person holding the tail. So I said "Yeah, I'll do that!"

But my brother and sister chickened out. They didn't want to go anywhere near it so, instead, I had to wrap the snake in a coil around my body and hold its head in my hand. Its head was so strong that I could hardly stop it from moving and had to strain myself to keep its head still and facing towards the camera. But I managed it and have the photo as a souvenir.

But I don't like spiders, though.
