Bigoted attitudes are treatable.

Learning that bulldog's seemingly ignorant, racist attitude towards anyone of arab descent is not his/her fault, but is actually caused by the genuine psychological condition of xenophobia, has made me look at things in a whole new light. It would appear that opinions I previously held to be merely the inane rantings of small-minded, bigoted misanthropes are, in fact, the unfortunate symptoms of treatable phobias.

So, in future, lets all try to be more understanding of those clearly afflicted by terrible conditions such as dikephobia (the fear of justice), eleutherophobia (the fear of freedom) and, most terrible of all, phenomophobia - the fear of thinking.

Ahhh ... but the old truism applies ... only treatable if they WANT to change.

Fear is a powerful motivator. I've met quite a few people online that are ruled by it. In all seriousness, HLHenry, I do feel sympathy. To live ones life in the shadow of fear is very, very sad. To be filled with venom, to sit in constant judgement of others ... ****, that's a lot of work!!

At the same time I do think people with the phobias are responsible for their own problems. Rather than try to change the world to accommodate their fears, they'd be better served by working on their own issues. I'm afraid I have little respect for anyone who opts to live an angry, fear-based life. And I have low tolerance for it.

I think some people will use some psychological catch phrases and clinical jargon in an effort to justify their clearly misunderstood hatred...

...and I do not for one second believe that Bulldog is, or ever was a psychologist, as psychology demands patient empathy, of which that person has none.

nah, its just about following the flock, and not thinking for yourself. They bring nothing but pain and suffering to people, based on nothing but their own bull**** and fears.

but it is sad to see some so paralyzed by their own fears, prejudices. ....as they constrict their own lives and thinking into very narrow perimeters. Maybe it is fear of independant thinking .......or thinking for themselves. Easier to follow a crowd...

indeed. It is highly improbable of him being a psychologist.......unless it is in an area of research that involves rats /mice and a maise. ......where interaction with people is limited. Either way.......the attitude portrayed is a detriment to the profession. anyone with basic high school psychology can throw around psych terminology....

at the risk of making this thread a personal one about one poster......... it is sad to see that IF he/she is a psychologist , he has not gained a lot of genuine self awareness ..... as this is part of the whole psychology arena. Know your self .....as only then can one begin to understand the concepts and others.
