Mass Media Mind Control

3 hours/day of tv =
3 hours/day of radio =
3 hours/day of exposure to billboards and product advertising =
3 hours/week of movies =
3 hours/week of magazines/newspapers =
3 hours/week of commercial Internet =
3 hours/week of talking about media subjects =

the stats are no mystery.
add to or subtract from the above. arrive at your own numbers.

thousands of hours each year immersed in media.
living in it. not in the world.
when not attending directly to it, we replay it in our heads.
rehearsing movie roles, tv characters.
thinking about them.
fantasizing. fixated on them.
pop stars. celebrities. rock and roll idols.
supermodels. news anchors. people in ads.

trying to look like them.
trying to act like them.
repeating their words to ourselves.
thinking their thoughts.
we like to believe we can resist their hold on us.


we'll explore the subliminal issues later.
for now just look at the surface.
look at what's obvious.

The majority of people nowadays think they are not affected by the media, marketing and advertising but they so are!! When I was studying marketing at college we had a great little e-mail go round- it basically showed the logos or tag lines of loads of brands but without the name bit- we had to guess the Company. Most of the logos easily identified the Company without seeing a name- that's brand recognition for you!! Shame I haven't still got the e-mail for you- it was a good game.

It seems that children are also being targetted more and more- in fact the government plan to ban fast food companies advertising during childrens TV hours to try and reduce obesity here!

I got it this afternoon pea. I have been bogged down at work this afternoon and am just off home now (just wasting the last 10 mins of the day!!) We have a meeting with our immigration consultant tonight but I am working tomorrow evening until 10pm so I will definitely reply then.
